How deep are y'all in the front seven?

We have the best DL depth we've had in years. We had literally none last year, but are rotating plenty of guys consistently this year and there isnt a ton of dropoff between the 1's and the 2's.

I don't really see anyone getting tons of pressure on Mett this year.

If Jenkins or Floyd can't get pressure on a straight up 1-on-1 with the OL, Grantham will have to use some exotic blitzes using the LB's. He has this in the gameplan, just not sure if it will work or not.

Oh I have no doubt that they'll be coming after him and I'm sure they'll get to him a time or two. I just don't think they'll manage to do it on any kind of consistent basis. Or at least I fricking hope they don't

We suck and you guiz are gonna take it to us. If you don't blow us out, its becuase Les Miles is classy and if you don't win, its because you beat yourselves.

I know DGD and they will be much improved by seasons end. Nothing I said was not true. Now the way I posted may have been in a slight trolling manner...But you're UGA and I couldn't resist...

Mett approves this message

I would say Hill is licking his chops more than Mett. Hill makes his living off of breaking the tackle of that last DB en route to another TD.

The D should have much better matchups against LSU due to the more pro-style offense. Grantham is able to use the 3-4 much more to his liking, like he did last week against NT.

Actually, one-gap 3-4 defense, in generally, tend to work better versus the spread, spread option, and read option. Pro-style offense can give it fits.

LSU this year is more like Alabama last year, pro-style offense. I think your NTs and LBs were better last year than this. I saw in the North Texas game on several occasions where the WR dropped passes or the QB missed the receiver in the seems. If North Texas makes a couple of those simple plays (and I think LSU has the players to do just that), the game is much closer. Georgia still wins on talent regardless.

Pressure on ZM will be key but I don't think the Dawgs can do without taking some serious chances.

Edit Note: Cause I can't spell...yet.

As promised:

Front 3-

Grantham rotates guys constantly, the two guys you'll see the most of are:

Sterling Bailey
Garrison Smith

Whether they are DT, N, or DE doesn't really matter because he has been moving them around constantly.

Other names:

John Taylor
Chris Mayes (he's our "freak" johnson, is a slender 330 pound juco with arms down to his knees)
Ray Drew
Toby Johnson
Mike Thornton

The smallest one is 295 pounds.

Linebackers-

OLB weak side- Jordan Jenkins 6-3 257 soph There are pics of him jumping over a fullback in practice a couple weeks ago. Like, seriously.

MLB - Amarlo Herrera 6-2 245 Jr forced a fumble in the backfield vs Clemson

MLB- Ramik Wilson 6-2 234 nothing special

OLB strong side- Leonard Floyd, true fresh. 6-4 235 has at least one sack this year. Very promising young man. You'll hear his name alot.

Secondary-

CB- Damien Swann 5-11 189 JR led team in int's 2012

CB- Brendan Langley 6-1 181 true fresh, highly touted, waiting for him to adjust to speed of college receivers, corner is a deep position at UGA and the fact Grantham has him starting over some of the other guys means he's been beasting in practice and just waiting for his time to come.

Safety- Tray Matthews. 6-0 214, true fresh. Same story as Langley. He looked like a beast in the spring game, very high hopes, but is just waiting for a big play to come his way. He almost tackled Tajh on a 4th down conversion in the backfield that could have turned the tide of that game, but alas, he didn't. Alot of potential.

Safety/nickel- Josh Harvey-Clemons Soph 6-5 220. Yes, a 6-5 safety. He was recruited as linebacker but his body just isn't/hasn't putting on the muscle weight the coaches hoped from the former 5 star recruit. But his outright athleticism is what keeps him on the field. He can be a big playmaker too. He was suspended for the Clemson game. Haven't seen much out of him because of that, only SC game and N Tex game, no real big plays came his way.

Other Safety- Connor Norman, RS Junior. He's our white saftey, he comes in if Josh Harvey-Clemons is in the nickel. He's our Beckwith. Great team leader and knows the defense inside and out, but just isn't the most physically gifted kid to be in the position.

Schematically,

Grantham's defense is based on a defensive line that is constantly shifting and stunting, always fresh with bodies, with multiple blitz packages designed to give an OL in pass protection headaches, and freak out quarterbacks.

It is not based on stopping the run.

The only way to shut down LSU's running game is for UGA's offense to score quickly and consistently. Put LSU in a position to rely more heavily on Mett to keep them in the game. Then Grantham's defense can feed.

I've watched UGA twice and guess what, they look almost identical to LSU. This game could really be a good one if both teams play to their potentials and limit bone head mistakes. That is what my main concern from LSU's end. The last two weeks have been sloppy with penalties and turnonvers.
