Incredibly similar situations. It goes without saying that Georgia would have a great chance to win the title if they were included in the playoff this year.

Which team is better?
Do you think you were lucky in 2021 or unlucky this year, or both? Do they cancel out?

It’s kind of crazy that next year you would be a shoo-in and could do whatever you wanted in the SEC championship game. Of course, in the pre BCS or BCS eras you would’ve had no chance. That’s college football, I guess.

Without doing a deep dive into my reasoning, 2021 was a better team.

That’s my gut feeling. I don’t think it affected making the playoff; too many contenders this year.

The 2021 was a much better overall team.
Much better defensive front 7.
Better offense with Bennett at the helm.
Special teams probably about the same.

All 3 of Georgia's starting down linemen on the 2021 defense were drafted in the 1st round a few months after the season ended, and the backup was Jalen Carter.

Offenses were about the same in my opinion.

That defense was nasty. It sucked for Bama that we had to try and beat y’all twice in a short span of time.

Bonds DID NOT MAKE THAT CATCH.

Another SEC Home Office win for the Tide.

Called a catch on the field and he controlled it the whole way. But please cry some more.

I think you are mistaken. According to the stat line he did indeed make the catch. (ESPN stat link)

You must've been watching the Fat Men on Crack Edition because the CBS replays CLEARLY indicated he DID NOT make the catch. Even the commentators indicated the same and the call should be overruled.

Interesting that there was no official review of the play. Hmmmmmm. Refs coming down with Elephantitis, maybe???

The 2021 defense was significantly better. 2021 would beat 2023.

2021 was a better overall team especially defensively. It’s a real bummer that this years team got held out of the playoffs but likely would have been included in the majority of prior playoffs due to the way things played out across other conferences. Also worth noting that we were very fortunate in 2021 and 2022 to have had relatively healthy teams (with some exceptions) late in those seasons. This team has been really banged up all year and is not a great place from a player health perspective.

Both teams were undefeated and ranked #1 until they lost to a one loss Alabama team (which they were favored over) in the SEC championship. The 2021 team lost by 17; the 2023 team lost by 3. 2021 made the playoff and won the title; 2023 didn’t make the playoff. Luck or chance has to be a factor.

I'd give Monken the nod over Bobo too.

2021 UGA had nothing to lose in the SECC

2023 UGA had to win.

I was in Indianapolis and watched UGA kick Bama’s arse. Why are you melting? Bama has been lucky half the time they get selected but still won. Not one of you Gumps want to admit it or even talk about it so you deflect

How about you worry about Michigan. Don’t frick this up

Meh blaming the refs….gotta face the facts we played and coached like shite against a slightly above average (by their standards) Bama team. Credit them for taking advantage.
