It was a sight to see. He would start and stop and then finally almost toss it submarine style back to the pitcher. And he had a gun when throwing out runners. No hesitation there. I found a video.

I played jc ball with Mackey..he was a short stop then

When I was playing Babe Ruth I started off as a catcher. For whatever reason I could not throw it back to the pitcher. Eventually moved to the outfield and it was fine. Obviously I never made it to that level but I sympathize with them. It's annoying as hell for the player too.

I sat behind homeplate when they played A&M. Very odd throwing motion. I do not think he picked off a runner all weekend.
