We said the same thing when Tubs was our coach.

It's okay, you can let it out.

In 20+ years you've only finished 1st or 2nd 3 times?

I take back my statement

Just another example of how uneducated Mizzou football fans are. South Carolina fans are very aware of our history and have developed thick skin because of it, there's no point in trying to make fun of it with your laughing emots.

Eta- there's no way you're out of high school.

Did UGA win a depleted East when we got demolished with injuries?

No cause we went 11-1, USCe went 10-2, and UF went 11-1.

Tubbs told me to ask Pinkel to come down for a duck hunt this January. Stars don't matter but they actually do.

Recruiting service stars are a fairly efficient method of judging just how ready to play college football a high school student's body is. Basically how developed his body and mind are compared to other kids his age in High School.

There are a ton of 2-3 star kids that don't get higher rankings because they haven't developed enough physically. Pinkel finds those kids whose bodies have the potential to add weight without losing speed and tries to help them develop into the same condition as the higher rated kids were in high school.

4-5 star kids are ready to play at the college level as true freshmen. Pinkel likes to have kids learn the system and adjust to college for their first year. During that time they also help them develop their bodies into the condition they should be. That way as the kid's bodies become ready, they already also have a good knowledge of the system.

Of course the kids that are ready when they land on campus play as true freshmen and those are usually the higher ranked kids MU lands.

TL/DR: Assigning a kid stars is a frozen in time ranking of HS kids. Kids can still grow and develop while going to college too.

Well put. Also the reason people aren't worried about LSU playing freshman, but if Mizzou has to play freshman it's a problem. It works both ways. If you can get the top 4-5 star guys it obviously sets you up better. Those guys can still get better. But if you can't pull those type but are able to efficiently get 2-3 stars ready before their junior year, that is a great way to get to a higher level.

His way works to win a depleted East title but most schools that's not good enough.

Depleted east...nice. When was the last time the east finished with 2 top 5 teams?

He and Snyder at KSU are excellent at this. Pinkel is the real deal. Mizzou is very lucky, he's been so underrated all these years.
Hard to believe no one plucked Pinkel after the '07 season, but its too late now, he's all Mizzou.

Here's the thing. All of these pundits, all of these posters...they look exclusively at these recruiting rankings. So when questions arise about Mizzou losing this guy or replacing that guy I kind of chuckle. "Stars" may matter to your guy, but to ours they simply don't. He routinely makes the recruiting rankings look silly.

My take is that all of this is just talking in circles. I believe GP when he says stars don't matter. He trusts the system he has in place for evaluating players. The thing is, I think that the system he uses ends up nearly mirroring the star rankings. Look at all of the kids that are offered early by Mizzou, using their "system". Coincidentally, most all of them end up being 4 and 5 star players. So for me it's all just coach speak. No, he doesn't necessarily want a 4* QB, he wants Drew Lock who by coincidence turns out to be a 4* recruit.

I also don't know if he makes the star rankings look silly. To make the star rankings look silly, he'd have to find 2 or 3* players that contribute as true freshmen in a significant way. He does that on occasion but not frequently. In most instances, those kids will redshirt their freshmen year, play sparingly as RSF and then start contributing in a meaningful way after that. Conversely, the 5* player will more likely play and contribute as a true freshman.

What GP does do a good job of is developing those 2 and 3* players over the course of 5 years such that by their last year or two, they are playing at the same level as 5*'s. The net result is Mizzou can be competitive with the level of recruits they get, but it won't be with as many freshmen on the field. It could potentially create a depth issue since in most instances the incoming freshmen are not ready to contribute, outside of 1 or 2 players.
