Here is the problem. CBS apparently forgot there are 11 other teams in the conference and will just pay the fines.

ESPN is worse. Not going to MSU/Mich means they are hoping for OSU/Mich to be undefeated at the end of the year, which could frick potentially a really big IB.

I wonder if the "agenda" people realize that CBS draws more viewers for a Bama football game than just about all of the rest of their program.

Disagree. This will just promote the Iron Bowl and people will be arguing over who has the better rivalry game.

I think you only have to get one team in each game undfeated and it'll be great. The other could play the spoiler.

The potential of Florida sucking this year (and being without Tebow) is a big problem for CBS. At least last year, they had the pretense of broadcasting the entire SEC -- even if that meant only Florida and Alabama. This year, it's all Bama, all the time.

As someone pointed out above, Bama and UF games on CBS draw more viewers than any other team. Since UF lost then that only leaves us. It's all about the money, not Bama.

Neither Mich or Ohio State will be undefeated for their game. At worst, Bama and Aub will both have a loss, but it's more of a possibility that we'll both be undefeated(which I'm really looking forward to). Our game will be the only big one on Friday so it shouldn't be affected by the Mich/Ohio State game anyway.

CBS has to pay a fine to each school that doesnt get shown on CBS.

Technically, there are 10 other teams in the conference.

Also, I didn't realize that what timeslot a game is in is a major contributor to who wins. Sure, night games are more intimidating environments, but we didn't have any trouble getting our fans fired up to play Bama at 230, I doubt USCe does either.

Yes and the difference in money they'll make by showing the Bama game over the overs will more than enough to cover said fines. Again, it's nothing to do with CBS loving Bama more. It's that CBS loves making as much money as possible.

Ratings dont effect revenue. Those contracts are done well before gametime.

They make their money off of advertisements. The bigger the game, the more money they can charge for advertisements. See the Super Bowl*

Again, those contracts are already set and signed.

Ratings determine how much the advertisers pay - so, yes, they have a huge effect on revenue. CBS cherry picks the games they think will have the biggest national audience. That means Bama and Florida (and Tennessee when they are good). Lord knows what they would do if South Carolina and Arkansas were the highest ranked teams in the SEC.

So you want me to believe CBS could make just as much money showing Vanderbilt every week as they do showing Bama, UF, LSU, etc...

Yes contracts with advertisers are done before the game, but the price they pay is based on potential ratings which are much higher with the top teams playing versus the bottom of the league. Fans outside the conference will tune in to watch Bama play simply because they are hoping someone upsets them. I admit I watched many a USC game over the last 6 or 7 years hoping to see them get beat.

Yes -- but based on projected ratings. CBS projects the ratings knowing they will cherry pick the games. Furthermore, if the actual ratings differ, then the advertiser gets a credit or refund. CBS protects its advertising revenue by broadcasting the games with the most national interest.

Yes but the ratings they have this year will affect their next contract. You really shouldn't argue this because you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
