I just wanted to say Flanders commanders.

I was trying to think of the most ridiculous thing, and that came to mind for some reason.

Was this suppose to be a zinger?

Exactly how many trophies were brought home by said trips

I don't think he meant it as a zinger at all. I think he meant it as a response to the LSU fan who claimed we didn't have a baseball program until the past decade.

You know, I like LSU fans - always got and get along with LSU fans. But let's admit something. Some, "some," LSU fans, not all, but some LSU fans remind me of some Bama (football) fans when it comes to baseball. In other words, everyone else in the conference is a distant second afterthought, not worthy of even being in a discussion.

I would think LSU fans, of all people, would not want to be looked upon like that when it comes to baseball ... like the "6>2" comment with the laughing emoticons. But I get it, I do.

I think, with regard to the LSU poster who claimed SCAR just started their baseball program a decade ago, I think perhaps both MSU and SCAR were regulars in Omaha a decade before LSU got there so the claim that LSU was the first, or oldest, successful program in the SEC is really not accurate.

LSU has the superior program overall, in terms of national championships. I give cudos to LSU for that, it's a helluva feat to go 6-0 in championship games. Congrats on your said trophies in said trips.

Both SCAR and LSU have played in six championship games or series.

LSU's winning percentage in Omaha is 2.19 wins per trip (16) for a .614 winning percentage.
SCAR's winning percentage in Omaha is 2.91 wins per trip (11) for a .691 winning percentage.

Both programs' fans should be proud. Let's go get some more. We've got work to do to pass the PAC 12 as the best overall baseball conference in the country.

But at least we still made it to the NC game, plus won a couple others. It's great to be a fan of a school that can say that, unlike a fan of a team who never even made a BCSNC.

All time records as of the end of last (2013) season:

LSU 2343 1486 .612

SCAR 2,411-1,447 .625

Current records:

LSU 37-14

SCAR 40-13

I'm just not sold that LSU has a vastly superior program history ... but LSU definitely has the CWS National titles advantage, that's for sure.

Eta: As far as getting to Omaha goes, I'd love to compare the regionals we've both played-in over the years.

SCAR, in the 80s and 90s, typically found ourselves traveling to Miami, FSU, Clemson, UNC for regionals as #2 seeds in the regionals, which was bullshite, because we were independents until '92 or playing in the Metro. We've had to travel all the way to Stanford and even to MSU during their heyday years to face their old dream team with Will Clark and that crew.

We got it, it was a matter of facilities, or so they said even though, in its day, the Old Sarge was one of the nicer facilities in the country. But there is no question we got the shaft 90% of the time in the eighties, and even at times in the 90s, when it came to seeding. Hell, we won our first national championship having to fight our way through the super regional at Coastal Carolina when they were #1 in the country just a few years ago!

That's all changed now - but I'd still love to see how the regionals matched-up. Truth is, I already know. I just looked at both media guides and LSU definitely benefited, as far as getting to Omaha goes, in the 90s. They earned it ... but still, I'm just not ready to concede that LSU has a vastly superior baseball program to SCAR as some seem willing to suggest.

I'm just glad we're both in the same conference and representing the SEC. We need to pass the PAC 12 in terms of championships. When we do that then we're there.

We are not trying to really sell you on anything! Skip Bertman brought LSU to the forefront of college baseball not just because of his winning percentage but also because contributions to college baseball. Is it really that hard to understand? Skips contributions brought college baseball back to relevance. When South Carolina was going to all those World Series before the Bertman Era I bet attendance was putrid.

It is not that USC isn't relevant because you very much are, but when baseball started getting a lot more recognition LSU was a big part of it

Very inpressive strek, Gamecocks. For all the hell you get as an athletics program, you definitely deserve praise this round. I was wondering though how many 50 win seasons the gamecocks have.

South Carolina fans brought LSU into it by making comments about our program. Not trying to take away anything they have accomplished but if they didn't want defensive remarks then don't make comments like that

Honestly, I had not read the entire thread...just this page. I guess they did deserve a small poke.
However, it was a LSU fan that took the first poke (Although, I believe it was unintended) on the first page.

That said...congrats to both programs. They have both done some pretty nice things on the Diamond!

LSU

Inferred references to SCAR a couple of times, not naming SCAR, but naming SCAR as "second" to LSU in a couple of categories.

What championship game did LSU lose? I noticed the 6-1 claim, but when did the loss take place and to whom?

Yeah, we're pretty much the "U" of college baseball. our history is not as deep as someone like Texas or Arizona State, but damn we made a big splash when we decided to be great

Techincally speaking, since we are going by titles, trips to Omaha, etc., SoCal is "baseball U," along with Texas. But as we all know, things were different back then ... until the 70s. But historically, SoCal's run in the 60s will never be matched much as UCLA's run in basketball in the 60s and 70s will never again be matched because of rule changes.

::::: sighhhhhh :::::

Yeah, well, SCAR won the homerun title twice.

Also, just for the sake of facts, in 2011 SCAR ...

quote:

South Carolina becomes the first team to win the CWS NCAA National Championship while using the new BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) Standard composite baseball bats that resulted in far less overall offensive production, nationally and across the board, during the 2011 college baseball season. The Gamecocks were also the first team to win the CWS while operating under the new "20-second pitch-clock" rule. (South Carolina was also the last team to win the CWS in 2010 using the old metal bats and without a time limit imposed between pitches.)

South Carolina becomes the first team to win the CWS NCAA National Championship in the new TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. (South Carolina was also the last team to win the Championship in the old Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.)
