Question,
Why not let the 5 thru 12 teams play at the neutral site bowls in the first round?

Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Washington earned the right to have the home game, not the lower seeds. …..not OSU, not Oregon.

It might make for a better conference championship games if a 12-0 Alabama were playing a 9-3 Florida in Atlanta for Sec cg.

Bama could pull starters if they are 12-1, but the home field for top four seems like an incentive to win. What am I missing?

Is it logistically impossible to do the home games the week after?

Are the teams that lose the first round eligible for a bowl game?

I may not have been clear. What I mean is look at Florida State versus Liberty University. That is a home game at Florida State.

Then the winner plays Alabama in the Orange bowl for 2nd round.

I am thinking it should be reversed.

Florida State and Liberty should play in the Orange bowl for the first round, , and the winner goes to play at Tuscaloosa the next week for the quarter Final.

The top seed should get the home game.

I do think it’s odd that the 5-8 all get to play in front of there home crowed and 1-4 do not..

But I do get it. The bowl games are played in key locations to bring revenue to those cities. Times have kinda changed and no one wants to leave to there home town to go to a city they are not big fans of

I would think it has to do with fan travel. If FSU and Liberty were to play in Orange Bowl and winner play in Tuscaloosa, both team's fans travel to Miami and then the winner to Tuscaloosa. Alabama fans can plan their trip to Miami whereas at least FSU fans can have a home game in opening round.

What’s lost in all this Liberty would beat FSU without their QB.

I give it two years of all-SEC final four before they turn the brackets into regionals

I've never thought of setting up the playoff this way but yes, it actually does male sense.

I think the current set up is based on at least 75 of tradition and the fact that the biggest bowl games are so heavily associated with the days in and around New Year's Day which is why what you're suggesting has not and likely will not be considered.

I'm just happy that the first round of the playoffs will be played on college campuses in true home games and that not only is there an incentive and reward for the top 4 seeds but there's also a reward for teams seeded #5 thru #8 getting home games.

P.S. I may have misunderstood you're original point btw. Are you talking about the the top 4 seeds playing the winners of the first round games on their campuses or the first round games being played in bowl games and then the top 4 seeds getting to host 2nd round games on campus or something else?

The format gives the NY6 bowls all a chance to host a playoff game.

I wish they would play all the playoff games at home stadiums until at least the Semis.

That way everyone has a chance to host.

I also wish they would start two weeks after conference Champ games. Take off Army Navy weekend and then start playoffs the following Saturday.

Louisville's six points, when they averaged 29 points a game, against FSU says you're wrong.

I have always agreed with this that at least the 1st & 2nd round should be played at the higher seed. Let the cities that support these colleges year round reap the financial benefits and stop giving everything away to neutral sites. I would have no issue if it was the 1st 3 rounds.

Also give more importance to the regular season. No one wants to play in the north, midwest, or even the northwest in December from the south. A lot of value would be placed on top 4 in the final rankings.

Current Scenario,
First round played at the higher seed then plays the 1 thru four seed at a neutral bowl.

My suggestion,
First round of the 5 thru 12 seeds play at neutral bowl and award the 1-4 seeds with the home game the week after.

They don't want the playoff running up against the NFL playoffs. So, they have to get started earlier than January 1.

But, personally, I think it's only a matter of time before we see the end of the bowls. Asking the fans to travel for two neutral site games in the span of 10+/- days is asking a lot.

Wait about five more years when they expand to 16. They'll get their home games then.
