Looks like there is 1 less candidate for SEC coaching vacancies. Supposed to be announced as early as next week. Good move by VTech. Fuente could do really well there.

I've seen this floated as a rumor on a few different boards today. Do we have confirmation now?

If true, that's a nice hire.
He'd be at the top of my list.

Ah, ok.

Good hire for VT, but sucks for Memphis. Why can't they keep nice things?

Surprising. He was one of the top 2 or 3 names on the market, and Virginia Tech seems like a very difficult place to get traction and win. Might be a stepping stone job for him.

Nah we're getting Herman I believe. Although I do like Herman, I would prefer someone with deeper recruiting ties to the area, and that's Kirby.

Uh. Yeah. I live there. Well, Germantown, but close enough.

So that's under TigerDroppings so wouldn't that be LSU coaching changes? This impacts hiring decisions of SEC programs so I put it under SEC Rant. I rest my case.

Would be a great pickup if true. I thought Fuente would be perfect for LSU or Georgia.

If this is announced this early, it really puts the heat on Mizzou's AD to get a decision made.

Odom (among other offers) likely has a job waiting for him as Memphis HC.

I would classify it as rumors on websites as well.

However, several places are reporting on it.

Justin Fuente Is Virginia Tech's 'Man' Per Pat Forde Report

quote:

Word is that athletic director Whit Babcock has his man, and has for a while now, and Fuente is that man. He’s done a remarkable job at previously moribund Memphis, going 18-6 over the past two seasons. It’s possible that tumbling dominoes at LSU and points elsewhere (namely Florida State) unspring this, but unlikely. A Fuente hiring would also keep Rich Rodriguez in place at Arizona.
