In Hugh's case, an apology should be thoughtful.
It should involve thoughtful contrition, silence and, most of all, humility.
The statement that he is formulating a public response at this time suggests to me that he has learned little about humility....
Hugh should realize that his public apology is pretty unimportant to most all of us, but doesn't. That's sad.

He could issue a written statement to the effect that he has hurt OM, his family and friends. That he knows the seriousness of his actions and he will work to overcome his mistakes.

It would be easy to say that God probably isn't gonna be in any hurry to help this man considering all he has done, but I am in no position to make such a claim. I guess all I can say is that he seems to have perverted the doctrine he claims to champion to the point of absurdity. He seems to be a narcissist as well. Otherwise he would have just kept his mouth shut about until he WAS ready to apologize. This tweet is just a transparent attempt to keep himself relevant in the public eye. I guess the irony is lost on him.

Sad thing is the remnants of the PTL went to two guys: Pat Robertson (bad) and Jerry Falwell (worse and more involved in it all). Those two, particularly Falwell, orchestrated to downfall of Jimmy Swaggert and Jim and Tammy Baker to sieze control of the PTL (they wanted the broadcast channel).
Ever wonder why those asshats were and remain on the air? This is why.
