SEC refs losing credibility

Still have a long way to go before reaching Big 12 standards.

Read this article last night and an FSU fan and myself discussed it. We aren't sure exactly what the point of the article is, since he never says anything like "they picked up a flag when it was illegal to do so."

If he is just pointing out that the SEC does their officiating differently, and it is illegal because of that, then I understand. But, if it isn't done to favor one team over another, does it change the result of a game? Like is the SEC 'Cheating' (use that word extremely loosely here of course) when non-conference teams are in, so those OOC teams are playing by different rules when SEC officials are calling the game?

From the way I read the article, it sounded like he was saying that the SEC officials either didn't know how to enforce/penalize the call, or just didn't really know what the rule actually was so they had to ask someone else what the call and/or the enforcement of the call should actually be. I guess he's saying the SEC officials are so stupid that someone off the field has to interpret the rules for them.

Pereira needs to provide proof of the "Mystery Man" that SEC officials are using. Let's see if he is any better than Danny Sheridan providing proof of the "Bag Man."

I get what you are saying, but calling into question the integrity of a conference is a big deal.

You should also take notice that his employer would directly benefit from a weakened SEC.

How many of the SEC refs actually live in the SEC?

In the last 4-5 years there have been a number of glaringly bad calls that have seemed to favor the national contender over their opponent. People are reading the article in that context and taking it as an accusation of bias. But isn't the "mystery man" almost crrtainly the replay official giving input on plays not subject to review? I'd rather the officiating crew followed the rules as written but the article really isn't claiming that Slive is speaking to the officials ingame in an effort to Bammer up the works.

I read it as there was a flag thrown about intentional grounding, and picked up when some 'mystery dude' told them to pick it up. So I could see your explanation being true, but I could also people people running with it and saying "they picked it up to help team XX"

Was an odd story that seemed like a lot of drivel

So his whole argument is based on "appeal to authority"?
