Clay Helton, who had the "interim" tag removed and became the permanent head coach at Southern California today, is a former Auburn quarterback. He was a reserve behind Stan White from 1990-1992 before transferring to Houston to join his father.

Helton has made a meteoric rise. He left Memphis, where he was offensive coordinator, and was named Arkansas State offensive coordinator after the 2009 season. After just two months, he left for USC. He was named interim head coach earlier this season when Steve Sarkesian was fired.

I wonder if Stan will whine a bit more when he stops and thinks about his former backup being the coach of one of the top 5 jobs in the country when he's just a radio guy.

I guess Pat was too busy looking for his pants to see the true talent.

All kidding aside. Congratulations to one of Houston's alums making good on his degree.

Ark State OC to head coach at one of the premier football powerhouses in the country is hell of a rise in six years
