We could just bark in little old ladies' faces. That's really manly.

Bringing the gf and will be staying at shady motel. Other than that, looking for must sees and good pre gaming bars.

Well if you're going out Friday night, midtown is going to be the college crowd and it'll get packed and rowdy. If you're looking for something more chill, downtown has some cool bars.

Here's a breakdown of some bars:

Midtown
Grog: really cheap beer, crowded, dirty.
Gator City: can get grimey. a lot of the under 21s will flock here. does have pool tables and arcade in the back bar
Balls/Salty Dog: fratty and crowded
Copper Monkey: solid place to have a burger and beer
Swamp: cool place to chill with a pitcher of beer if you can get a table in the front lawn. plus hot waitresses
Cantina: bartenders are amazingly hot here, cool outdoor bar in the back
Fat daddys: average bar but has alcoholic slushies that are dangerous

Downtown
Tall Pauls: really cool bar with craft beer and games
The Top: one of my favorite restaurants in gville. great beer also. LONG WAIT if you wanna eat but you're able to put your name in and they'll text you when you're ready.
2nd Street Speakeasy: the guys in Mad Men would drink here
Rockeys Piano Bar: dueling pianos, pretty fun bar
House of Beer: basic bar but with tons of craft beer on tap
Simons: miami style night club, guidos galore
Sharab: club/bar with hookah

Mothers pub is cool and is between midtown and downtown. cheap bar food and drinks.

I'm a big tiger fan living in sw ga and I go to Gainseville atleast 7-8 times a month to visit some friends. I weary LSU gear all the time it's really not that bad. The town is pretty nice (downtown and campus area) and the stadium is always open which is really cool. Most of the time I wear my LSU gear I get the usual "we both suck this year" and I pretty much agree. The tailgating is really spread out but you can park Farley close to the stadium for about 20 bucks. GPD is EVERYWHERE so be mindful of that. I'll be there with my family who is coming in to visit and watch the game. Geaux Tigers

Not exactly what you are asking for but if you get in town early enough on Friday ask some one to point you to lake Alice and the bat house around sunset. Everyone I have ever taken there thinks it is neat. Actually is neat to watch bats black out the sky coming out of two bat houses.

Gville actually has a bunch of great restaurants that are off the beaten path around down town.

Honestly, Gainesville is like a septic tank inside a toxic waste dump. Place is a damn shithole and one of the worst road trips in the SEC.

Drink a lot. Yell at cops. Wave a gun in the air.

You'll have a great time. Trust me.

The Top - cool atmosphere, maradona burger is amazing (downtown)
Dragonfly - good japanese/sushi (downtown)
Sabore - probably best overall restaurant (about a 10 minute drive down Newberry)
Embers or Marks steakhouse- best steakhouses but pricey
Flying Biscuit- breakfast
Leonardos 706 - ask to sit in the back room if you go, cooler atmosphere. good food

A sleeper pick is a food truck called Ameraucana Wood Fire, best pizza in gville.

Other things you could do is check out Swamp Head Brewery and First Magnitude Brewery (which just opened up).

FYI: Metered parking is lifted I think after 5 or 6 today and through the weekend. I also believe Uber is in gville now. You can also get around on the city buses last time I knew it was $1 to get on.

if you have time, Ginnie Springs is about 30 mins north and you're able to float down the river and drink some beer.

Gainesville is awesome if you actually know where to go, F the haters.

If you feel like getting off the beaten path - go to Satchel's - Pizza place, great salads, pretty cool environment.

Best food in town IMO is Manuel's Vintage Room - which is more of a romantic setting if you want to treat the GF on Friday, or you can try Embers or Marks US Prime. All upscale places to eat.

Other bars downtown - Loosey's - usually a pretty good crowd and beer selection

Boca Fiesta/Palamino - Has a big pool hall, great mexican food on the restaurant side, and an outdoor bar in the backyard that is pretty awesome. They usually play the game here too, sometimes on a projection screen that they roll out.

If Sushi is your girls thing - check out Ichiban - it's off the beaten path, but best sushi in gainesville IMO. Dragonfly is another place that people like to go because it's downtown. Dragonfly's bar is probably better than Ichibans.

Gatorsdockside is a gator friendly bar that is usually wild on gameday if you feel brave.

There is a ton to do, really in Gainesville, considering how small it is.

How is The Swamp in terms on atmosphere and food? It sounds like a must do (Walk ons equivalent)?
