Since the 2003 season, there have been a grand total of 14 teams who have legitimate National Championship claims:
2003 - LSU, Southern Cal
2004 - Southern Cal
2005 - Texas
2006 - Florida
2007 - LSU
2008 - Florida
2009 - Alabama
2010 - Auburn
2011 - Alabama
2012 - Alabama

2015 - Alabama
In that 13-season stretch, AU has played 6 defending NC teams and 9 eventual NC teams (Bama's 2012 team was both a defending and eventual NC).

We played 9 eventual champions and 7 defending champions in that span.
I don't know our record in those games, but off the top of my head, I know we beat LSU in 2007-8 and Auburn in 2011, so we won at least 3 of them.
