Wow. Huge step back last season for Shoop at 26.

Penn State finished 2nd in total defense, 2nd in pass defense, 3rd in run defense and 7th in scoring defense two seasons ago when he was national defensive coordinator of the year.

He's never had anywhere close to the talent to work with as he'll have at Tennessee. Same can be said for Aranda at LSU

LSU made the title game with Jordan Jefferson, Greg Studwara (OL Coach forced OC), and Les Miles. 5 years ago...

LSU has the talent to put it all together at any time. Arkansas? Lol

It's almost like we didn't go 13-0 with Jordan Jefferson, Greg Studrawa (LOL) and Les Miles not but a few years back

Jefferson was better than Harris, bad as that sounds.

The improvements Shoop makes on a team in year 1 is the biggest thing to me. Penn State's defense was pretty bad in 2013 IIRC.

Jefferson had 2 worse seasons than Harris' first. The whole "Harris cant improve crowd" sure is holding on tight to that thought. Harris' QB Rating was about 130, which is pretty standard for a young QB in the SEC. And that was his first year starting.

Just to relate to a piggy, Brandon Allen's sophmore season was significantly worse than Harris'.

I think he will be successful at LSU, but I am just not going to anoint this defense as the '85 Bears just yet like most are.

LSU fans are going to be so disappointed in Arranda. He'll get it done, but not in year one. It's going to take them a year or 2 to transition to the 3-4 defense.

At Penn State last year, Shoop's defense allowed 55 points in a loss to the same Michigan State offense that could not score a single point against Alabama's defense a few weeks later.
