The answer is Bo Jackson. Guy ran a 4.12. Reread that if you must.

The think that makes Bo's speed so incredible was the fact he was like 230. He wasn't some 170 pound football player.

Jackson did run a hand-timed 4.12 at the 1986 NFL Combine.

Hand-timed being the operative word, smart guy.

Did you go to Bama or something?

I was born and raised in Alabama but attended college at Duke and I'm also a former sprinter and current youth track coach.

Donte Stallworth ran a hand-timed 4.18 at Tennessee's pro day. Hand-timed == worthless.

Let me know when somebody goes sub 4-2 with electronic timing. Chris Johnson has the fastest in the history of the combine with his 4.24. Does that not make you consider that hand-timed 40s are worthless?

Did you go to Bama or something?

That's even worse. You're terrible at your own job. You, of all people, should know that 4.12 40s don't actually exist.

Timing differences in the 40 yard dash result due to:

1. Hand time versus electronic
2. Running surface-Harder the surface, the faster the times. Drop a ball from a given height, say 3 ft on surface #1. Drop the same ball from 3 ft on surface #2. Which ever surface yields the higher bounce will also yield the faster 40 yard dash times.
3. Running shoes
4. Temperature
5. Altitude
6. Wind (headwind, no wind, tailwind)....

There are a myriad of factors that impact a 40 yard dash time....which is why the same guy can run a 4.31 and then 2 weeks later at a different location run 4.51.

"Hand-timed" 40 yard dash is POSSIBLE....which is why my initial post CLEARLY stated "HAND-TIMED"...

Leonard Scott- 10.05 (ran 9.91 after he retired from football and was a professional track guy only)
Sam Graddy- 10.09
Xavier Carter- 10.09
Willie Gault- 10.10
Herschel Walker- 10.23
Deion Sanders- 10.26
Marvin Bracy (current high school senior)-10.28
Warrick Dunn- 10.30
Jahvid Best- 10.36
Chris Johnson- 10.38
Bo Jackson- 10.39
Reggie Bush- 10.42

Randy Moss broke the WV HS state record in the 100 and 200 as a sophomore, but then never ran track again. I think he would have been right there in the mix had he stuck with it.

FYI...Do NOT challenge me about track and field/sprint times. I will embarrass you.

Hard to believe. He did not seem this fast as a kickoff returner for Tennessee.

Fastest LEGAL 100 Meter Dash times for a football player in history.

1. Trindon Holliday- 10.00
2 tie. Jeff Demps- 10.01
2 tie. Jacoby Ford
4. "Bullet" Bob Hayes- 10.05
5. Ron Brown- 10.06
6. Darrell Green -10.08

I think it's Holliday because there is more speed today than in 1980s and prior. But there is a difference between track speed and football speed. At Clemson, CJ Spiller supposedly could outrun Jacoby Ford in pads, especially w/ a ball in his hand during a game.

And you can't forget the Holtzism.... "It's better to have a slow player running in the right direction than a fast guy running in the wrong direction."

It's possible only because it is inaccurate. And if it is inaccurate, why mention it?

Bo Jackson. Imagine if he wasn't 50 pounds heavier than Jeff Demps and OMAC. You could watch his old highlights, games, etc... and tell his sub 4.2 was legitimate. He ran away from everybody when he wanted to. Onterio McCalebb is also pretty dang fast. He just falls down everytime the wind blows. I'd also like to see what Trent Richardson runs when he gets to the combine this year. I'm thinking it is a sub 4.4 or somewhere close. He's a freak too, considering he's nearly 230.

Scott winning the Indoor 60 Meter Dash World Championship in 2006.

Many of the top outdoor 100 meter guys don't run indoors. Scott has the 21st fastest 60 meter time in history at 6.46 seconds.

Question for Remy74

If Usain Bolt ran the 40 at the Indy combine, what do you think he could get?
