Business Insider

The chart below shows us how much college football players might be worth at the top programs if they were able to play in a free market system and receive compensation in a manner similar to that of the NFL.

We calculated the Fair Market Value of college football players at the 20 most profitable programs using data provided by the Department of Education. Using the NFL's most recent collective bargaining agreement in which the players receive a minimum of 47% of all revenue, each school's football revenue was split between the school and the athletes with the players' share divided evenly among the 85 scholarship players.

Data's shite. I have it on good authority that Auburn's fair market value is 180K.

Now deduct 4 years of housing, prepped meals, tuition, training, physical therapy, tutoring, medical care, legal counsel (especially at Tennessee), and coaching.

I wonder how many highschools profit off of football players. When should they start getting paid? These kids could be working instead of playing a sport.

You do know every D1 school would have to pay the same or it would be a recruiting advantage right? What about the (all but 10 or so) athletic departments that don't break even and take a subsidy from the school or state?

And I won't even get into million dollar training (coaches) and an incredible platform (tv deals) to showcase your skill to your future employer the NFL. All for free by the way.
Not to mention all that money goes right into paying for all the non profitable sports. It's not like some rich NFL owner is lining his pockets

There is already a place where it's all about "me" and not the love of the game, It's called the NFL. The NFL says you have to wait 3 years not the NCAA. Go to Canada if you want to make 30-60k a year in the meantime. It's a free market, obviously kids and parents value what colleges (amateur) offer over other professional options
