If OU, being located just west of the SEC West region, can pull off a championship season when Bama is down or full of underclassmen some seasons, then that will definitely help Bama maintain hegemony in the SEC West division for eternity.
When Bama is down and OU gets good, then that will help diminish Bama's competition in the West. OU and Bama could work out a deal to alternate certain seasons and pluck out all of the recruits in the Delta and Louisiana at LSU's expense, which will enable Bama to never lose to LSU even during reloading seasons for Bama. If Bama is down next season, then Bama better hope OU can pull off a championship season and keep LSU's potential recruits split up over the coming years.
Moreover, aTm joining the SEC West didn't do anything but add dead weight to the division. OU can be the other end of the vice grip with Bama, since Blue Bloods of college football prefer the success of other blue bloods.
