Every Wednesday on the local Tuscaloosa sports radio station, Mark Murphy, an Auburn beat writer, is featured. Normally, a good level headed discussion among him and Tuscaloosa radio guys is had each week.
However, today he answered a question in away I'd like to see your comments.
He was asked about Auburn preparing for LSU this weekend, and he said, and I paraphrase, Well, Oklahoma was a 30 point favorite at home last week, so Auburn knows that they don't need to take any opponent lightly.

Just curious if you take it that at least Mark Murphy does not regard LSU as any good.

Sounds like he is just using an extreme to show anything can happen, which is true. I doubt any players or coaches are taking their game at LSU lightly.

Umm yeah. Does any regard LSU as any good?

LSU has not been very good but they are improving and the win over UF had to give them some much needed confidence.

I don't believe Auburn coaches and players think they can just walk into Death Valley thinking they will have a cake walk and chalk it up as an auto win based on beating GaSouthern/Mercer/Mizzou/MSU/OM.

I hope not, at least.

As a fan, I wouldn’t dare count it as a definite win.

Auburn has the better team and coaching, but that doesn’t always equate to a win.

I guess you had to hear his response, but yes I took it as what you are saying.
It is just not something you'd say if you're about to play a highly regarded opponent. Sounded just like what someone would say if they're about to line up against an FCS school.

I know Mark, and he respects LSU's talent and physical play. He doesn't expect it to be a cakewalk for Auburn. That said, it is the best chance Auburn's had to come into Death Valley and pull out a win in quite some time.

When he speaks audibly, it sounds like bees in a glass jar.

Exactly I would like to think Gus knows this game is huge for his seat to not get warm again on top of the losing streak we have there. If he loses Jacobs won't be there to save him at the end of this year so I'm expecting a well focused team led by Gustav.

I mean, typical rant trolling notwithstanding, that is kind of a curious comment from a beat writer ahead of a big game.

I took is as any team can win on any given Saturday, and AU shouldn't take LSU lightly in Death Valley.

Murphy is a pretty good writer and pretty level-headed. That comment is pretty surprising. I think that's the type of comment you make when you are about to play a cream puff. I hope to God that the coaches and team don't feel the way he does...if so, we will lose. I doubt very seriously LSU is just going to lay down and let Auburn run over them. All things being equal, Auburn is the better team and should win....but attitude is the great equalizer... or maybe that's rain...I dunno

Depends. It's a day game, and if LSU falls behind early, especially by more than one score, it could get ugly.

I'm still not convinced this LSU team has that much heart, and I know the talent level is down. There's been a lot of bad blood between LSU and Florida in the last year, and I think LSU's players wanted that game (plus Florida is the same combo of depleted and terrible that LSU is). I'm not sure they can muster that emotional level two weeks in a row. And LSU is limited in some way, shape or form by either injury or subpar talent at just about every position on the field.
