7-5 is the absolute worst case scenario with this roster. No question Butch is let go if that happens.

Word out of camp is that he's finally living up to potential. It would be a huge boost to the secondary if he actually plays to his talent level this season.

It sounds like both Martin and N. Warrior have had big springs

I get these guys are experienced, but they were pretty bad last year

Only Coleman Thomas. The others were fine when they weren't injured. The OL Bama played was all 2nd and 3rd string -- not a single starter on OL played that game. We were also forced to burn a redshirt/play a true freshman that game as well.

Last year's OL issues were mainly injury related. We never had the same five guys starting and it fricked things up tremendously.

Did you VOLS hire Tom Herman? Wasn't that the plan several weeks ago?

Asking for a friend.

Just clearing up the alternative facts that have been all over this board regarding Tennessee's roster falling off after this year's NFL draft.

This roster is still more than good enough to compete for Atlanta.

If they avoid the injury bug this Tennessee team should be a Top 20-25 team. Should be better than everyone in the East other than Georgia and maybe Florida. But, they should have been better than Vanderbilt and South Carolina last year too, and they were Butched. Not convinced the defense will be very good, though. A lot of question marks over there.

If QB play is decent and Larry Scott isn't a dumpster fire that team should win 8-9 games. However, there are a lot of games that could swing the other way if things go badly. Missouri, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia Tech + Florida, Alabama, LSU. If the defense is bad and the QB/OC situation doesn't go well that team could go 6-6. A lot of possible swing games in there if some question marks get ugly answers.

We have a 0* that's going to go in the middle of the first round this month.

How would you rank that?

UT's biggest talent deficit is at RB, IMO. For whatever reason, Jones is having trouble recruiting top notch RB's, and I'm not just basing it on star ratings. John Kelly is serviceable, but not a standout runner to me. I don't see anyone in your upcoming class who looks like an all SEC type either. Maybe Jones' scheme doesn't require great RB's to be successful, but he'll need to get decent rushing yards from the QB position until he recruits RB's better.

RB is the position on the team I'm most confident in strangely enough.

I think Kelly is an absolute stud.

Your entire post comes off as misinformed honestly. How many Tennessee games did you watch Kelly play in? He obviously didn't play against UGA so I'm curious when you actually watched him in action.

We love what we have in him as a starter. He had solid production as a 3rd string RB behind Kamara and Hurd. 630 yards with 5 TD's and 6.4 ypc. We expect a huge year from him and to easily eclipse a 1000 yards.

Using the 247 composite, Ty Chandler was the #5 RB in the country in last year's class and rated a 97 out of 100 if you round up. Only 4 team's in the country got a higher rated RB in last years class. Only Georgia and Alabama took a higher rated RB in the SEC.

That isn't an elite RB?

I seem to remember Ohio and Appalachian State's defensive lines giving them a lot of trouble in the first several weeks.

Last year's OL coach and S&C coach were both let go at the end of last season for that reason.

The coaching staff expects to see a big improvement in both strength and technique with the new hires. We'll see, but they are the #1 unit the staff has raved about all off season. That's the first time the OL has been praised like that since Butch's first year when he took over an OL full of guys that are playing or played in the NFL.
