Examining 3rd and Chavis: Week 5

Arizona State: 4/20 on 3rd/4th down combined and 1/6 in the 4th quarter
Ball State: 3/15 on 3rd/4th down and 1/4 in the 4th
Nevada: 5/17 on 3rd/4th down and 2/5 in the 4th
Arkansas: 5/13 on 3rd/4th down and 1/5 in the 4th/OT
Mississippi State: 5/16 on 3rd/4th down and 1/4 in the 4th
Total: 22/81 (27%) on 3rd/4th down and 6/24 in the 4th quarter. A&M is ranked 18th nationally in 3rd down defense.
Weekly analysis: A&M was very good on 3rd/4th doen this week, especially in the second half when they held MSU to 2/9. They got three stops in the 4th including the game clinching 4th down stop.
Will continue to update each week

Our D won the game last night. Played very well in the 2nd half when the offense was struggling.

Our offense basically pulled an LSU by taking a dump on the field late, and still no sign of 3rd in Chavis.
I'm sure at some point, the defense will break at an inopportune time, but this happens to every defense.

Keep moving those posts. After week 1 it was "can't wait for SEC play," after last week it was "can't wait for MSU." Funny thing is - even if Bama does well on third down it will look more like the law of averages than the effects of some myth.
