Every single year since the tournament has existed, a team has made their tournament debut. Insane streak.

Northwestern not making the tournament until 2017 despite being a charter member of the Big Ten is an oddity.

The only FBS school without an NCAA Tournament appearance is West Point.

Sucks that debatably our best basketball teams never made the tourney because the NC schools are gay cowards that held the ball (before shot clock)

The BIT was the better tournament so it makes sense a lot of schools started going in the 60s

The tournament from 1939-1950 only had 8 teams.

Which means the first 3 years saw no repeat appearances.

The best basketball player to play at Carolina was John Roche, the best to attend South Carolina was Mike Grosso

If I'm not mistaken, didn't LSU make the Final Four with Bob Pettit their first year making the tournament?

I remember the “Metro Conference”.

How many different conferences did those teams end up in over the years?

OU basketball will never win an NC. Probably has had more final fours in our past than we will in our future. But it will always be pretty cool that OU made the first one.

It's kind of funny. 1939 is when Steinback came out with the "Grapes of Wrath"... effectively dooming Oklahoma's perception among people of other states maybe forever.

Yet Oklahoma had an Orange Bowl football team that year ('38 season) and a Final Four basketball team that year . Oklahoma State had won multiple wrestling championships including that year.

Pretty good for a bunch of destitute share croppers.
