Not shocking at all . The main personalities are the problem but they will not be the ones to loose their job. Besides ball games I can't stand to watch any of their shows

I never understand why people get so worked up about shows. It's easy to not watch the shows you don't like. I don't really care about the politics or personal views. If a show is good, then I'll probably watch it assuming I have time. If a show isn't entertaining, then I'll skip it without being upset.

The live sports is really what matters to me anyhow.

ESPN got themselves in trouble with huge live sports contracts and the cord cutting. Jamele Hill isn't going to be the reason ESPN tanks or rebounds. They need to be smarter with their contracts and better with online subscriptions as the market place is changing and evolving.

You are half right. ESPN has realized that they have a failing business model with their live sports contracts and cord cutting. But the route they chose to generate more revenue is to go all in on politics in sports and that was a poor decision and instead of generating revenue it is losing money.

I find it amusing that muinsandiego sits there and says "I don't see any liberal bias!" and then goes on a rant about trumpkins, rednecks, etc.

Of course you don't see the liberal bias you fricking moron.

What also amuses me is that you have a message board that literally is ESPNs target audience...and have quite a few posters specifically saying they stopped watching ESPN because of their shift to political discussion.

Yet perceived shift of ESPN to politics doesn't actual account for any loss of revenue...

I never watched any of the talk shows so I don't know anything about the political views of anyone associated with ESPN. I only watch live sporting events or an occasional 30 for 30.

Sage Steele being fired for going conservative on air.....Max Kellerman, on multiple occasions, saying it's ok to stereotype southerners as racist because of the civil war with no reprimand. The liberal adgenda is evident on a daily basis, which is ESPN's right to push but it defys what the free market wants. First, they never should have geared towards politics but even after they did why would they align themselves with a leftist adgenda with NO ratings to be had. If anything they should have aligned themselves with a right wing, conservative adgenda strictly for ratings as that adgenda is the only way to get ratings in the political arena.

I assume they thought they'd draw in the edgy angsty millennials with their liberal bias not cluing into them being broke and/or being smart enough to find their sports entertainment elsewhere.

I don't know that their politics has played that big of a role for ESPN's fall (i.e. the contracts with the leagues) but I think it's pretty stupid to assume it had no part in it.

Sucks but ESPN has been pretty crappy for a while now. I haven't watched SportsCenter in forever and I used to watch it once or twice a day religiously.

Your an Idiot,

Cable Companies are taking a huge hit because people use Netflix, Hulu, Kodi, Firesticks, ect.

Companies like ESPN overspent for rights, but didn't forsee people leaving cable. That's a huge loss of revenue.

Also people can get news via Mobile Devices.

Has nothing to do with politics you toothless dolt.

I know my personal use of ESPN tv/internet has dropped hugely the last few years due to their political activism. Also mostly stopped watching the no fun league.

Nothing to do with politics? Have you guys not been paying attention? Don't worry because ESPN basically just came out this morning and said as much. Cable cutting is no excuse for the collapse of an American institution like ESPN. People specifically have cable to watch ESPN for their sports content and not political hot takes which are always one sided. They also chose to turn their backs on the largest demographic in the US and in the market: the white male. It didn't work for Hildawg and it's not going to work for ESPN.

You still have to have something with a subscription that includes ESPN to get on WatchESPN app????

For those claiming politics has nothing to do with ESPN's demise are being purposefully obtuse. Is the bulk of ESPN's predicament due to cord cutting and technological marketplace changes? Of course. But when your margins are already razor thin and shrinking; why alienate the majority of your viewership?
