Cut halftime to 15 minutes max
Change replay system to NFL-style challenges
Don't stop the clock for first downs
You'd probably save 10 minutes per game with the last two tweaks
Disagree with that one. They've already tweaked it so that the clock gets rolling pretty damn quickly but if you take away clock stoppage on 1st down you take away some of the most dramatic and interesting parts of the game. All those wonderful comebacks and attempted comebacks and even just the before the half momentum shifting scoring drives that keep people on the edge of their seats during games would be all but eliminated and the game would ultimately be less enjoyable to watch.
Using the clock is an intergral part of football as a strategy game and the game would be a lot less interesting without that aspect.

Agreed. The real culprits here are too many commercials and reviews taking forever and a year.
The last one gets my goat. For every play that has to be carefully reviewed to find out just what happened there are a dozen plays that a quick glance at the replay tells you all you need to know. But they still spend ten minutes reviewing it.

What gets me about reviews is that they are totally random in terms of how long they take. A call that you'd think they'd take their time with will get no time while a call that is as clear as day will take forever.

NFL halftime is 12 minutes. 20 minutes is too damn long.
A schools band can still get on the field and perform in 10 minutes.

You know its bad when the announcers start in on the "We have no idea why it is taking so long folks. Lot of dead air time to fill here." bit. Almost every game I watched this year an announcer has said something along those lines.

The games take so long because of commercials, injury timeouts, and dumb penalties.
The most egregious being that every single penalty, college refs feel the need to huddle up and discuss it for 30 seconds.

I don't understand the rush? I mean yes, a four and a half hour game on CBS is too much. But I don't see the problem with the games going for 3:30.

Yea right. Those ten minutes will be used to sell more commercials.
If you want to speed up games there need to be less commercials.

Saw this on ESPN. Hmm... maybe stop CBS from broadcasting games?

Clock stopping at every 1st down is making games way too long. Mizzou's ridiculous quick pace offense had us running 90 plays a freaking game. Our average game time was over FOUR freaking hours. Freaking exhausting. Get rid of clock stoppage on first downs and put a 1 minute cap on reviews. If the officials can't figure it out in 1 minute then make it stand.

This is the real answer.
Or they could just play regardless of whether there's a commercial break and make the broadcasters give a recap to catch the fans at home up.
There may be stipulations in the TV contact that preclude this, but maybe at least for the next contact go round, the conferences could insist on a hard limit on the amount of stoppage for commercial breaks. They could play through any commercial breaks after, say, 45 minutes of commercial-related game stoppage has occurred.

Also seems like the automatic review for targeting takes an eternity.

3:24 average???
No way that is true.
They are using the hundreds of non televised games to pull the ACTUAL average of televised games down to what appears to be a reasonable time.
When you go to a game that is televised, it's a pain in the butt. It is always over 4 hours long.
Less commercials please!

Commercials suck but they're not going anywhere. I guess the game length doesn't bother me much, funny how people will complain about this as if their time is so valuable, yet probably spend 8 hours a day on Facebook.

I blame CBS for skewing the average.

The clock stopping on first down is stupid. That's why Jesus invented timeouts. You got 3 of them. The last 2 minutes of each half feel like the NBA and last as long as the other 13 minutes of the quarter. Of course the fans won't like it because drama sells, but it'll cut down a lot from the game time.
Maybe just run the clock normal and add a 4th timeout for each team?

Only stop the clock on first downs in the last two minutes of both halves.

Also too many reviews and those take so much time sometimes
They should have a time limit to review a play and make a decision. Like 2 minutes max. If they can't come a to a conclusion within that amount of time after seeing all the angles, then the call can't be reversed.

Can't disagree, although another issues is the random/arbitrary reviews (I get scoring plays) but like others have posted an NFL-style challenge would be better for CFB IMO.
