WTF are you babbling about? It was reported in all the papers at the time. Les wanted him to stay.
Why do y'all live in such delusional denial about everything? When the rumor went out that Les and the AD tried to get. Chavis to stay, you all puffed your chests and said no fricking way.

No, we didn't. Many may have said they didn't want them to do it, but no one was saying they weren't doing it. Once again, there's a difference between the two.

I think people said "no fricking way" when you delusional douchebags act like he left LSU for A&M at the same price.

You hear some of the things being said about why I left and my character being attacked, that it was about money or the offense there,” Chavis said. “That’s disappointing because it was never, ever about any of those issues

A&M was willing to pay money that LSU wasn't. and y'all overpaid.
It was less about the money and more about the contract.
I bet if yall offered another $1.3 million but without the Les clause he is still at LSU today.

Old Sarge posts in a perpetual state of wrongness, the degree just varies. It doesn't seem to slow him down any.

it wasn't the money, or the LSU's offense.
he just wanted a chance to play for a team that if they had a good defense, would lose to Bama 31-0.

But he didn't leave because of the money.
He left because the LSU AD tried to hardball him on a shitty contract condition.

Sorry I guess I misremembered. Didn't GWB coin that?
This is what is relevant and establishes that none have security beyond this year if Les is terminated

All of the new contracts have a "Les Miles" clause, which states that if head coach Les Miles leaves, the contract ends six months later

This was the sticking point for Chavis, and it's quite a ridiculous request. Coordinators aren't guaranteed positions when coaches are fired/retire.

Les came out after the bowl game or a couple of days later in a press conference saying he was going to talk to Chavis about staying.

I don't think it was.
You are right, most coordinators aren't offered more than one year contracts. Also most coordinators don't stay at that level for as long as Chavis has, so this is clearly a special situation.
They way I see it, the LSU AD was trying to pull the bait and switch. He tries to show Chavis he is top shelf by giving him a rare multi-year coordinator contract, and then buried in it some fine print that effectively makes it a one year contract. Many people would consider that a dishonest business deal.
If the LSU AD only wanted to commit to a one year contract he should have only offered a one year contract. Not a multi-year contract that was really a one year contract.
Hence why it got dirty at the end- Chavis was pissed. That is why he called Sumlin during the bowl game, and why he never listened to a LSU counter-offer. The LSU AD lost Chavis's trust when he was given that shitty contract bait and switch so Chavis had to move on at that point.
We were just lucky we were there to catch him fall, and that we have the kind of money to give him whatever contract makes him feel special.

Two questions:
1. Do you know how long Chavis has coached in the SEC?
2. Do you know the functions of the shift key?

You're kind of silly in real life, aren't you?
