I called this one from a mile away.

Niners like them some proven starters with the 'championship' attitude. Add to that Reid's work ethic and non-honey badger BS persona, and you have the perfect niner.

They needed a long term dependable safety, other parts of the defense are so good that they needed to focus on getting a consistent and durable player, which is exactly what they got. Yes they might have reached a little high for Reid, but when you have 13 picks in the draft, you can play around a bit. At the end of the day they got their guy, and Harbaugh's been right about a lot of other 'questionable' picks (Aldon Smith for example).

9ers really are stacked. They'll be running the NFC for awhile.

It'll be fun to see us beat ole Petey in Seattle. Though the hawks are putting together one heck of a team.

Reid was pretty well spoken in his interview tonight with the San Jose paper:

quote:

How does it feel to be a Niner?
"It feels amazing."
How would you describe your game?
"I'm a very cerebral player. I pride myself on knowing the defense, on getting guys lined up on the scene, and being a great teammate and doing my job. I'm very fortunate to be on such an incredible defense. I can't wait to get to work."
Dashon Goldson had a reputation as a hitter. How do you see yourself in the regard of a big hitter?
"We play with severe contact at LSU. It's definitely something I have on my resume as a football player."
What does it tell you they traded up to get you?
"It's an honor. A crazy story: I was on the red carpet and a reporter asked me a trivia question about who had the most draft picks. I said San Francisco. I guess it's small world that they picked me."
What was your interaction with the 49ers leading up to the draft?
"I met with coach Harbaugh at the (February scouting) combine. He recruited me coming out high school. He was disappointed for not coming to Stanford and instead going to LSU. The story goes full circle."

quote:

Why didn't you go to Stanford?
"I was born and raised in Louisiana. I still bleed purple and gold. It was a no-brainer for me to go to LSU."
Did coach Harbaugh recruit you hard?
"Yes, it was the only school that recruited me as hard as LSU did. All the other schools gave up knowing I was an in-state guy
. It shows how much he wanted me to go to Stanford and I appreciated it."

This is the attitude every Louisiana high school football player should have

Agreed.

I was impressed by how well spoken he is and how Harbaugh has been such a big fan of his since high school.

I'm not a Niners fan but I am happy for Reid. Looks like a great fit for him and I expect he'll give his all to Harbaugh just as did for Coach Miles.

He's a really bright guy. He's one of those people that you can stop on campus and talk to and he will actually reciprocate a desire to talk. Very articulate. I read somewhere that he was valedictorian in high school (Dutchtown, so not saying much )

Seriously, though, he's the most instinctive Safety I've ever seen. Reason he had a bad year is: we lost our two best DBs.

He played most of the season with a very, very painful sternum injury that kept him from tackling effectively. Very, very sore 24/7 and takes *rest* to heal.

He played in the SEC. There is no rest. Thus, no healing.

Same with Tharold Simon. He got picked on late because he had a foot injury he suffered in the TAMU game. But he's a legit 6-2 cover corner.

When you start the night with 13 draft picks, you have the luxury of taking risks. Harbough liked Reid, thought he fit their system and went up and took him. SF did nothing but get better defensively last night and he addressed a need....
