They were #6 and we were number #8 when we played in 2007. If I remember correctly.

It was 1997 that LSU upset a heavily favored UF team.

Just as big (or maybe bigger) would be AU vs UF in 2001. UF was a 21 point favorite and had won 7 in a row against AU.

LSU @ Alabama in 93 has to be one of the most unlikely in conference upsets. Alabama was riding a long unbeaten streak, maybe Alabama fans can tell us the exact number. Obviously they were undefeated in 92 and had only tied Tennessee in 93 at the time of this game.

LSU was coming of a home win over Ole Miss, but was only 3-5 and had lost at home to Florida 58-3 earlier in the season. They would eventually lose the final game of the regular season to Arkansas to miss playing in a bowl game. Arkansas had 3 backs run for over 100 yards. It was LSU's 5th consecutive losing season.

The line on the game was near 30, if not a few more.

Yea I just looked up the spread. It was LSU -9.5, so not much of an upset really. We were actually favored against Florida that year, which is crazy to think about since it was right in the middle of the Tebow/Meyer heyday.

Well it was Tebow's first year running the show by himself. I remember though that was the year that LSU fans got a hold of his cell phone number and was calling him talking shite. I loved it when he scored to put UF up 17-7 and during the celebration he made it like he was putting a phone up to his ear. Then we ended up winning and he was crying on the sidelines. You could tell he wanted that game so bad.

Another fun fact, AU went from 1935 until 1973 not losing to FL in AU's home game (some of the AU home games were played outside of AU).

That would be almost 40 years, playing every single year, AU did not lose to UF at home.

1993...

quote:

Alabama entered this game the reigning national champions, on a 31-game unbeaten streak, with the No. 5 ranking and a 25-point favorite over LSU, who sported a 3-5 record.

The Mobile Register headline that day declared: TIDE COULD LOSE, PIGS MIGHT FLY. Columnist Jimmy Wigfield wrote: "[Alabama head coach Gene] Stallings will be merciful to his old pal [LSU head coach Curly] Hallman. Alabama 30, LSU 7."

After a scoreless first half, LSU jumped on top 14-0 with a pair of 2-yard TD runs in the third quarter. The Tigers defense terrorized Bama QBs all game with four sacks and four interceptions. The Tide scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 17-13 with 2:41 remaining.

Alabama tried an onside kick but touched the ball before it went 10 yards, and LSU ran out the clock.

Here is an SI article on the 93 LSU-Bama game. It mentions the spread was 21, but it still seems like it was more. Having Curley Hallman should have added more anyway. Alabama hadn't lost since September of 91 (game was played in Nov 93) and had only tied Tennessee during that time (31 games).

The Day Pigs Flew

ETA: Also a quote from Kevin Mawae in there, one of the greatest LSU players ever. It is too bad he played during a terrible era for us, but he went on to make a name for himself in the NFL. Eight pro bowls, president of the NFLPA, and future hall of famer

Mississippi State 6 Bama 3 in 1980. I know a while back but at the time them beating the Bear, and holding him to 3 points was huge.

Yeah but LSU was #14 at the time. That was the year Peyon Manning finished second in the Heisman race. Damn that was a long time ago.
