I tend to believe that with the recruiting, athletic budgets, and fan support in the SEC (maybe excluding Vandy) the potential is there for every team to be better than average. On a highly emotional day, an upset is going to happen occasionally. Being able to consistently win is the hard part.

Our top 22 are as good as anyone's. Unfortunately, all our talent is from our true freshmen and true sophomores. We have ZERO seniors (Ok I lied we have 3 contributing) but the senior class doesn't exist thanks to Dooley and coaching changes. The junior class is OK but not great. The sophomores and freshmen are fantastic.

What this means is 1. no experienced depth. 2. no senior leadership. To give you an example: Curt Maggitt got hurt in OU and defense has fallen apart.

Our OL and DL are currently MASH units due to injuries and we lost 3 starters in the secondary just before the season. Our WRs are crippled as well - even the backup got hurt last week on a bye (hamstring).

This has been our problem all year long. You can't be this young, miss this many players and expect to win tight games. A great example: The last play of the Bama game Chance Hall (RT) was a true freshman making his first start due to injuries. He made a critical mistake and it cost us. Even the guy beside him Jack Jones (RG) is a true freshman also making his first start.

Do you know of a team that can lose 4 starters on OL and still come as close as we have??

There are no moral victories in the sec. If you lose by 3 points it doesn't matter. Most games will be close and you have to find a way to win.

I think we (esp our coaches) manage to actually be simultaneously good and horrible. If Richt hadn't Richted things would be looking really bad right now tho.

Tenn was a count hair away from beating Oklahoma so they aren't that bad. Seems like a depth issue.

You can almost say the same for LSU which is scary to think about.

Maybe on the surface but we're coming out of the ashes of Kiffin and Dooley. LSU is in a much better position even if they're young. We're just now regaining some sense of stability.

As to the game itself... how's your pass rush? We were able to generate negative play after negative play for most of the game because Kiffin was too dumb to simply run the ball.

Lyle is a sad and pathetic excuse for a head coach. He's just not SEC caliber.

LSU in 2012 was missing 22 players by the UF game. They stayed competitive all season.

Our pass rush is so so. It feels like one minute we're getting after the quarterback quite a bit and then the next half we just sit back and do nothing at all. I'm hoping to see that aggressive D against Bama because we'll need it. We also don't have a lot of depth on the Dline which causes problems toward the end of games. With that said we're much improved from last year.

Tennessee won't lose another game this year. Unless they get a tough bowl draw. They'll win these next 5 no problem. Bookmark it.

Prof...are you retarded man? Read your post. UF has had 3 TRUE frosh start on the OL most of the year. A TRUE frosh is one of our best playmakers (Antonio Galloway) adn a true soph who only played half a year last year is the other game breaker (Brandon Powell)...then add in Grier, a redshirt frosh...on defense we rotate CeCe Jefferson on the DL a lot and last year we played a ton of true frosh in secondary.

There arent excuses for whats happened to UT except for coaching. UT has had 3 years of superb recruiting and what happened to them? Good coaching would solve the problem. McElwain has far exceeded what many thought about him coming in. A lot of folks (and maybe you for that matter) made fun of hiring a HC from Colorado St and now they arent laughing.

Hiring HCs is a crapshoot...you never know how they will do until you hire them. Butchy and McElwain are from different planets...HC Mac is very humble pie, folksy, witty and down to earth....comfortable in his own skin. Jones is nothing like that and is too intense...we just fired a coach like that. McElwain in a recent presser after we beat Ole Miss and Mizzou "they are getting their bellies rubbed now and everyone is patting them on the back" of course talking about how players become over confident.

Maybe Butchy will pan out but my guess is he is too intense and needs to relax more and think more about making adjustments. Of course no one would accuse Saban of being mellow...but McElwain showed after throat slash incident that you dont want to push his wrong buttons.

Yeah when we lost Shy Tuttle we went down that hurt our run stopping a lot as he was really coming on as a monster runstopper (I think we're down to a 4 DT rotation maybe 5 and are drafting guys from other positions) but our guys stepped up on the edge. Corey Vereen went wild from Curt Maggitt's position and Derek Barnett brought it when he wasn't being held to death. I'm actually very pleased with the defense's performance. It was one of their best all year.

I think the defensive blueprint is there for LSU to capitalize on - we left our safety's deep and generated no gains or negative yardage on first down by getting to Coker. If Bama doesn't generate good yards on 1st down you can stop their offensive series.

Saban will be motivated and all but Tennessee is a physical team and has been since CBJ took over. They didn't come out of that game feeling refreshed. They'll be bruised and worn as frick and I'm hoping y'all beat the living shite out of them and think you can. Comparing them to UF, I think they're about even when UF has Grier in (he adds a gutsiness factor that motivates his teammates) and we had a chance to beat both. LSU can definitely win this game, imo.

I hope though that you use Fournette to run to the edge more. BAMA is very vulnerable there.
