Him leaving Snell on the sideline against Texas A&M doesn’t scream ball control as much as it does lack of situational awareness in playcalling.

I honestly think they thought they were going to surprise A&M by throwing the ball. Meanwhile our freshman QB was all like

The other possibility is Benny was playing through injury. We'll likely never know but that entire game offensively was a mystery.

Congrats on Chaney, welcome to 3 years ago when UT fans trolled Georgia for hiring him.

Yeah...except, they didn't.

Granted, you were very complimentary of him, however,
Let's take a look at some comments from Vol Fans:

When asked about Chaney one Vol said:
Well it's been.........questionable
On Pittman:
He's solid. Can't say the same on Chaney
Pittman is a beast, great hire there. I'm not sold on Chaney... He infuriated me with his play calling here. 3rd and 1? Throw a 40 yard bomb for an incompletion. Punt
Very meh hire on Chaney, IMO. The guy is decent, but Smart will have to replace him at some point in order to reach the level of success they are looking to attain.
Chaney fricking blows and doesn't recruit either.
Haha I had no idea they hired Chaney, he fricking sucks. It's like they can't hire a decent OC to save their lives. Bobo, Schott, and now this clown. They'll find out soon enough how bad Big Jim is.

Now...get this...these were not done by trolls. These came from Tennessee fans in a thread on the Tennessee board. (Names will remain unknown to protect the innocent) But this is from several posters.
I should admit, though, that there were some favorable things said about Chaney, too, though.

We had games this year (Alabama) where our best back was balling out and inexplicably he would disappear from the game plan.

Ive said the same thing numerous times here. The LSU game for example was pure coaching malpractice

Chaney tries to outsmart himself regularly with the counterintuitive playcalling b.s.

The curious case of Mecole Hardman was the most baffling to me. We started the season off making sure every game plan involved getting him some touches and at least one deep shot a game. It’s not a guarantee it will work but it opens teams up and forces them to deal with our most explosive player. The last half of the gear when we caught fire we still had no interest in finding a spot for Mecole and that was infuriating because he was the one guy who could give any defense an issue.

Wouldn't you have to get a snapshot of what he did at Cincinnati to get a better picture?

I mean, I know nothing about him...

Yeah has nothing to do with trying to play SEC style ball with an offense loaded with 3* players

I’m glad he’s staying, didn’t like having a different offensive coordinator every other year.

Our offense needs to be better next year, it’ll be a big year for Gran.

He's got Rose and Smoke back, and Wilson and Bowden could be a deadly combo next year. I get why he stayed. Offense will be improved overall. Losing Snell is bad, but we have others ready to step up.

I'm mixed, but like I said earlier, not sure if he was making poor play calling decisions or being hamstrung by Stoops.
