Since 1933 (1st SEC season), Bama coaches have combined for under a .500 record (.496) in their 1st season.

2007 Nick Saban: 7-6
2003 Mike Shula: 4-9
2001 Dennis Franchione: 7-5
1997 Mike DuBose: 4-7
1990 Gene Stallings: 7-5
1987 Bill Curry: 7-5
1983 Ray Perkins: 8-4
1958 Bear Bryant: 5-4-1
1955 James Whitworth: 0-10
1947 Red Drew: 8-3

Eliminate Whitworth and the win pct is .542 (= 7 wins in a 12-game season + bowl)

In the transfer portal era (since 2018), SEC coaches are a combined 97-96 in their first season. Only 2 of the 16 have won 10 games (Brian Kelly and Dan Mullen).

How many of those coaches followed an undefeated SEC Championship season and a spot in the top 4 in the nation (playoff or non)?

Most new coaches come in when there has been a failure or a decline. Few come in when the program is at the top of the game.

Are you willing to bet they won’t win 8 games, I’d love some of that action. Hell I’ll give you 9 if you feel froggy.
