No buddy... this is Mett's neck of the woods.

Based on my recent drive 40 miles S of NOLA for a swamp tour, the route I just gave will be like the Romantic Road through the Mosel Valley of Germany.

This is a sneaky little back way into south Athens, instead of dealing with 78/ West Broad Street and 10 Loop traffic.

If he leaves at 8am he won't have much traffic though and he'll be fine. There's no need to confuse him or add a bunch of unnecessary turns. With 78 he only has to make 2 turns from Snellville to campus.

1 turn...

He'll dead end onto 78bus, turn right, it becomes Broad and takes you straight to campus/downtown.

I agree with you.

I'd imagine it'd be much more practical to get off 78 at the loop and then head to his intended destination. I don't know if they have a meeting spot in mind or anything though.

Have fun with the red lights every mile.

Why I can't do 78. Just aggravates me.

Okay, but if I start hearing the song from Deliverance, I'm gonna be mad.

He's not kidding, it's a nice route to take. Entering Athens from the South side is a breeze. Everyone generally enters from the North and West. Plus, free parking on the South side of campus so you're in prime position if you don't have a designated place.

I know snellville has gone way downhill in the last 10-15 years, but it still has a ton of positives. I'd rather live in Snellville than in some backwoods bumblefrick town down in south georgia.

I'll second the advice to turn on 53, go through watkinsville, then take simonton bridge road to milledge avenue. Pretty drive, traffic won't be bad, and it will place you near some decent parking options.
