Does playing a weaker schedule help you in the playoff system?

Apparently all you need to do is win your conference and you get in. So what's the point of scheduling tough OOC teams now? No point in banging up your players any further. Better to rest them for the playoff and you can rest them in 3 cupcake
games.
games.

They didn't have a conference championship.

5 power conferences, 4 selections. OOC matters.

This has never been a rule, but you already knew that.

It can help you get into the playoff if you're in a power conference, but only if you're undefeated.

A weak OOC is not an issue if you go undefeated. If you lose a weak OOC is a bad strike against you.

What helps the most is winning your playoff game.

Ultimately that's what it comes down you.
If you try to game the system just to sneak into the playoff that's all well and good, but good luck winning 2 games back to back against elite teams.
That's one of the best things about the playoff system, some pretenders will occasionally get into the top 4, but they won't make the championship game.
Teams like Notre Dame 2012 will never go ruining national title games again, as they are weeded out in the first round.

Agreed.
The playoff is the best way to level the playing field when it comes to disparities between conferences and regular season schedules. Settle it on the field in the playoff.

Bama hasn't scheduled a tough out of conference game in ages. Nothing to be afraid of.

Alabama's OOC schedule has been in the top tier of the SEC the past few years.
I'd put them #3 behind UGA and LSU in that regard.

Ohio state was better than you up and down the field. You embarrassed yourselves by even showing up

It's always a gamble. Schedule a week ooc and you'd better go undefeated. If you drop a game and your schedule is weak you're putting your fate in everyone else's hands. You've got these 3 options:
Go undefeated (easier with a weak schedule)
Schedule tough opponents and only lose once
Schedule tough opponents and lose twice and hope everyone else loses enough for you to back in
While on paper the playoff seems to give an advantage to the first option, the committee seems to be using a common sense approach and could possibly leave out an undefeated team with 0 quality wins. They did put undefeated defending NC FSU at #3

Not even close. First things first, UF is clearly a cut above Bama in OOC scheduling. Second things first, Alabama plays neutral site games (great) but the rest of their slate is almost always embarrassingly bad. So they throw away any respectability by combining that game with a FCS team and two teams that finish between 110 and the bottom in total offense and scoring offense.

Michigan St lost to Oregon and Ohio State and then beat the number 5 team in the final prebowl rankings. I would be curious what their opinion is.

Teams like UF, SCar, and UGA have a built in OOC opponent that makes their OOC schedule harder to judge vs. everyone else.
UF and SCar say, hey our OOC rival is pretty good, we can fill the rest with crap, and that's fair, it matches how most of the other SEC works, 1 good opponent, 3 garbage ones.
You gotta give props to UGA for still going out and usually scheduling another good OOC team.
