Does ND Being Conference-less hurt them?

Seems as though Notre Dame does well in recruiting year in and year out b/c of their tradition/history, but does ND not being in a conference hurt them more than it helps them? Why do they insist not being in a conference?
Definitely think this hurts them around Bowl season from not having played a tough schedule during the year (sans USC, Stanford)

They are quasi conference-less. The play 5 ACC games a year.
And they still had a better schedule than Ohio State, FSU, Clemson and a whole bunch of others.

Not as much as them being nut-less.

Historically, no.
Nowadays... yes.
But their arrogance keeps them from realizing this fact.

Unless they joined the SEC or Pac-12 their strength of schedule would still be shite

Their recruiting is blown out of proportion because of their following and the services wanting their premium subscriptions.
Yes, them not being in a conference is hurting them badly.
Their poor performance in BCS games is illustrative of just how catered-to they are by the bowls.
It'll catch-up with them some day ... soon probably.

What hurts ND is that it's a bunch of dooshes and they are never half as good as they think they are.

They had a top 10 SOS this year.........

Nothing wrong with their schedule; they've been top 10 or so in SOS most years recently. Not having a 13th game could hurt them if they're in playoff contention though.

At one time, Notre Dame owned college football, and being independent was the logical choice. Now their influence is slipping fast, and being independent will eventually hurt them, but I don't think they're quite there yet as long as they can schedule the teams they are playing these days.

No if they go undefeated they make the playoff with out a doubt. , 1-2 losses they are at a minimum in a NY6 game

As long as NBC carries them they are fine. It's not about wins, it's about $$.

They have not won a championship since Holtz was there in the 80s.
It hurts their recruiting.
Their schedule is overrated.
NBC is not going to carry them forever.
Their ACC deal is a joke.

It should hurt them. They should have to be undefeated every year to make playoffs over a one loss team that plays in a conference championship game. I also think having divisions in the SEC hurts us. It should be the two best teams in the SEC that play in CG.

They'd still make more TV revenue in the SEC or Big 10.
