The game was one of the better contests in recent years and I'm no Kiffin fan, but he had some clutch calls on mismatches that proved to be one of the contributing factors in the game.
Bama took the best shot that clemson could muster and I believe Kiffin was the difference in this game. Bama had no answer for Watson.

What say ye?

He is the only OC that Saban has had at Alabama that could have won one with this years team.

I don't know what OC we could have won with.

I only know which one we did win with.

Saban apparently called the on-sides, but I assume it was Kiffin who noticed the Howard mismatch and the fact that Clemson's fear of Henry and Ridley was leading them to concentrate on stopping those two, which left Howard far more free to get unstuck and open. No way to tell if another OC would have won it. The only conclusion worth coming to is that Kiffin did help win it and called some great plays in the process.

Remember back in January of 2014 when he was hired and most everyone on this board mocked us and Coach Saban? Yeah...you're all dumb.

We don't get there without him developing Coker into a solid quarterback

McElwain would've made O.J. Howard a star all year long.

Coker definitely was money in crunch time, but solid QB? Dude was painful to watch about 75% of the time

Disagree. He steadily progressed into a "competent" qb and hopped across the threshold into "solid" by the last third of the season. The natty game and his shitty reading/reacting to pressure notwithstanding, he became even a playmaker

His last 3 games of the season:

vs. Florida, 18-26 204 yards 69.2% 2 TDs 0 INTs
vs. Michigan State, 25-30 286 yards 83.3% 2 TDs 0 INTs
vs. Clemson, 16-25 335 yards 64% 2 TDs 0 INTs

His mediocre pocket presence when being rushed notwithstanding, Coker was very solid for us down the stretch.

They don't win the title without Bobby Williams

And they were damn lucky the Clemson top 5 pick d back went down. I really wonder if all those broken coverages would have happened. That kid is fricking good

Kiffin was huge, has been huge in several of our games over the last two years.

Remember when he was hired and you folks thought Saban had lost his mind?

Eh, most of the Alabama forum here and elsewhere thought he lost his mind.

There were a few of us (me included) that thought it was an amazing hire that would produce results.

We were the minority.

Kiffen is a better OC than most thought he would be, but it wasn't his offensive mind that was in question it was his maturity. It appears he has matured quite a bit, good for him and Alabama.

Are you insinuating there aren't other OCs who couldn't call runs up the middle 70% of the time?

It's amazing how people who spend a lot of time watching and talking about football still have no clue about the game.

Clemson forgetting to cover a receiver lined up at receiver is not some genius mismatch created by design, it's a bust in coverage and without multiple busts and a tackle missed in the backfield bama's offense is inept almost the entire game.
