No, sidewalk Alabama fans are Kentucky basketball fans (because of Bear) and are Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Laker fans in pro sports because they admire "winners."
I might be wrong, but that is how I imagine it.

I don't know how you would even begin to tell this. Bama has always been popular even during some really shitty years.

Don't know about sidewalk Bama fans but the idea that Bama fans in general don't care about basketball is probably the single biggest myth about the fanbase. Bama fans support for basketball traditionally has only been surpassed by the following SEC teams: Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri. Florida is hard to judge because they've been a dominant program under Billy D so great crowds should be a given. Alabama at least matches and in many cases easily surpasses the rest when it comes to fan support for basketball. Baseball is a different story though.

I am a sidewalk fan. I am also a big basketball fan I watch almost every game every year... I don't really care much about the baseball team... I hope they win, but I just don't like to watch baseball...

I have a few friends that are die-hard Bama football fans but couldn't tell you one thing about any of the other programs. I found it odd.

I went to UAH, so I suppose I classify as a sidewalk fan somewhat. I follow Bama basketball almost as closely as football. I'm not a baseball fan, but I hope Bama's team does well while I'm off doing other things.

Good post. UK fans also have to deal with the "don't care about football" stereotype, we know how you feel.
