Do "directional schools" still get paid when the game is cancelled?

I would say that it depends on the contract language. I would think, if you are planning a game in a coastal state during hurricane season, you would have to anticipate some chance for weather to impact the plans.

Yes, they will either reschedule another year or just buyout the contract

I'm sure it's case by case. For example, FSU is still paying ULM even though their game is cancelled. Their agreement was if someone has to cancel, they must pay the other team $1 million.

I know LSU paid McNeese year before last. Other than that, I don't know.

I think they get paid, but not directly by the school. Schools in the contract take out an insurance policy with a Lloyds of London type of insurer and the insurer pay the insured if a game is cancelled do to outside issue beyond the immediate control of both schools.

Similar to a landlord having a "rent loss" clause outside of their primary destruction insurance.

I'm sure, especially if it's the FBS school that decides to cancel it without a makeup.
