Did Texas try to stop A&M from joining the SEC 10 years ago?

I am trying to recall what Texas' response was to A&M when the news first broke about the possibility of them leaving the Big 12 for greener pastures. A&M is quite clearly trying to block this from happening and I was wondering if Texas also tried to keep A&M from joining the SEC.

Not trolling, just don't remember if Texas really tried to fight it or not.

Not really, only Baylor tried to sue to block it and that was about it.

Seriously? Texas did everything they could to threaten, pressure, and bribe A&M to stay.

Serious question. Will aTm want to leave now? Not a troll. I’m legitimately starting to think this is bad enough where y’all will leave.

is this coming from the same source that said that atm has an unwritten agreement with the Cocks, Kentucky and Florida to block any schools from their respective states joining the SEC? Cause I am pretty sure thats all bullshite

Once they realized they had no power to stop us, they boycotted us. And pressured the rest of the Big 12 to do the same. It lasted quite a few years.

Baylor sued us or threatened to sue. I forget if it actually happened. Claimed we cost them 600 M or something ridiculous.

We should go independent, play a joke schedule and make the playoff every year

Super serious? Of course not.

A&M left for the SEC for the betterment of A&M. No one is leaving by choice.

Everyone is acting as if this is a done deal. Texas has been a gem in their conference for years, I am not sure why they want to move to the SEC. They are a big fish in a small pond, why move in to be a small fish in a big pond where there are 4 whales waiting to eat every year.

Congress, courts, pressuring of all manner. You name it they tried it. False economic predictions. News press. fricking snakes the entire school is. Ioathe to kick their fricking teeth in on the field but if you give them an inch they'll try to take a mile.

I was excited about it and I remember Texas wasn't happy (who would have been) but I couldn't remember what or if they did anything major to stop it other than behind the scenes stuff. I had forgotten about Baylor.

I think finbaum said it’s a done deal. Doesn’t mean it is, but it’s starting to look that way. And I have no idea why Texas wants to come here, but I’m sure it’s because of money.

Let's not act like A&M was blowing up the Big 12 for funsies. It was a joint effort. Nebraska and Colorado had had enough of tu's shite. They were bailing. tu tried to organize the super conference with the Pac 12. We weren't interested. The Pac 12 wasn't either with the LHN. We went to the SEC and got Mizzou in too. Texas was counting their LHN money while little BU, TTU, KU, KS, ISU were all thanking them for leaving them alone. They were playing checkers while we were playing 4D chess. Now they realize we were right all along.

Baylor is, was, and probably always will be that little midget guy who tags along with Gaston. If you think that wasn't doing the bidding of the fricking longhorns, you are mistaken.

I remember that. Didn't the SEC inquire about Texas joining the conference with A&M at some point? And I think we were turned down flatly by Texas. A&M initially turned the SEC down too if I recall correctly.

There were rumors, but tu was too good for the rednecks in the SEC. It wasn't academically good enough for some strange reason. I never understood what academics had to do with an athletic conference.
