I remember all the bad blood when Cohen was hired, just curious if Polk ever made up with the AD and whatnot?

I think Polk eventually calmed down and apologized but those first 2 weeks after Cohen was hired were glorious.

He apologized, not sure how much Cohen cares for Polk after all of that though.

Cohen is a good coach. He gripes with the umpires too much, but he is a good coach.

There is still bad blood there on Polk's end. He has continually sabotaged us behind the scenes -- until the point he finally realized his support structure was dwindling as we finally turned the corner under Cohen.

Cohen professes nothing but love for Polk --- but in his shoes, it would be incredibly hard for me not to harbor a lot of resentment about it.

In the end, they are simply polar opposite personalities. Polk will also never support this regime because of how we process players...

A year after Cohen took over- they caught Polk hiding in the bushes spying on practice. Polk turned into butthurt nutjob.

Cohen wont say anything bad about Polk publically- but he loves showing the old man he was the guy to get it done.

And as Engie said- Polk has lost most of the support he was getting in the beginning, people realize State hired the right coach.

I didnt say that in this thread but no- State had a good baseball program before Polk. The Left Field lounge was a tradition before Polk

As I've said- we won 4 SEC titles and went to Omaha in the decade that preceded Polk. Polk only won 4 SEC titles in 28 years at State. State has 16 SEC titles overall

But he still built y'alls program into what it is today. Without him, y'all aren't one of top 5 programs in the SEC.

Cohen's seat was about as hot as it could get after his second year. You don't see many coaches in baseball get fired after 2 years but I seriously thought he was done. I believe his second year was the year they won 1 game in the SEC West and like 4-5 total in conference.

Overstated.

He jumpstarted baseball in the SEC in the 80s. He was a mediocre coach(and worse recruiter) from the day that John Cohen walked off the field in Rosenblatt in 1990 as a player until we finally got the nerve to be done with him in 08. The game passed him by -- and it happened with Skip Bertman in the early 90s -- not during the 02-08 train wreck.

His "longterm" legacy at MSU was saved by one tremendous signing class in 1994 thanks to a few bad arse assistant coaches. That carried the 97 and 98 teams -- which fueled the perception that we were still relevant -- despite underperforming the 6 years prior.

Cohen seals the deal and we go back to Omaha this year and order is restored.

We are a gnats arse away from our 5th straight coach taking us to Omaha. Gregory, Polk, McMahon, PolkII....

Polk certainly did alot for us and SEC baseball in general -- but he damn sure didn't "build" MSU baseball.

You're high if you think MSU baseball would be remotely close to where it is today without Polk.
That's like us saying that we would be where we are today as a program even if we didn't hire Bianco.

And you know this how? You never considered the fact that MSU baseball becoming successful was inevitable? We had the fan support before Polk. Fact. We demanded excellence before Polk. Fact. We had won the SEC and been in Omaha just FIVE YEARS before we hired Polk. We had won the SEC 3 times and played in 4 "regionals"(which only invited between 16-40 teams TOTAL back then) in the decade prior to Polk. To act like he underwent a grass roots building effort at MSU is a joke. He walked into a program starved for and ready made for success.

With that in place, success finds a way to manifest itself. Polk was great for his first fifteen years in Starkville. No doubt. But PLEASE show me what he's done to help us continue to move forward since CWS 1990? Because the answer is this -- jack shite.

If you aren't moving forward, you are moving backward. We went backward from 1990-1996 -- had a blip on the radar(thanks to McMahon) from 97-00 -- and FELL APART from 01-08 outside of one lightning in a bottle luck run in 07.

Show me what he did from 1991-1997 and 2002-2008 that implied his coaching and recruiting excellence...if you can? Better yet -- wait until tomorrow to answer that question.

The game -- just like Skip Bertman -- passed Polk by. And in my opinion, it started happening in 1991 -- not 2001 as is commonly believed amongst our fanbase.
