- Nebraska tried to get into the B1G twice in the early history of the B1G

- Nebraska was a Top 10 football brand and Mizzou was not

- Nebraska and the B1G were in discussions in Jan of 2010 similar to the Cotton Bowl discussions between Loftin and Slive later on

- Nebraska had an inelastic demand from a loyal fan base that translated well to a conference building a network.

-Mizzou had talked to the B1G and had been the obvious choice/most rumored school to move to the B1G since the Penn State expansion.

-Mizzou is as valuable to the B1G as it is to the SEC.

-STL and KC Media Markets vs Omaha. You only get above average per viewer revenue from the state in which you have teams.

-AAU

-How many times did Slive mention that "Missouri will be a full member of the SEC from day one" how many times did he mention the same for aTm?

Mizzou didn't have the ability to support decreased conference revenue for an extended period during the junior membership period and tries to negotiate, since Mizzou would have been the first expansion since the B1G network was established there was no precedent for junior membership. Nebraska catches wind of the issues, and having no other options during the whole Pac 10 rumblings, jumps on and uses their much larger base of fan support to get through the lean years.

Mizzou goes south, you have attendance to bitch about.

I blame Wal Mart

Sam Walton went to Missouri
Bud Walton was born in Columbia
Stan Kroenke married Ann
Bill Laurie married Nancy

Thanks Mizzeaux for expanding on this subject. And of course, you are right.

Grits, you can throw out all your points to try and make your case, but I can tell ya one thing. I was a hell of alot closer to the situation than you were. You can believe what I'm going to say or not, I could care less.

I don't claim to be a big time insider, but I do have a family member who still lives in Columbia and is a semi big donor. He runs across our AD on a pretty consistent basis and has had private talks with him about things from time to time.

He asked our AD what really went down. Alden (our AD) told him point blank that we were offered junior membership in the B1G to start. That we simply could not afford to do this especially with the buy out with the Big12 hanging over our heads. We turned it down and tried to negotiate and that's when the Huskers stepped in and took the deal. Nebraska wanted out just as badly as we did and jumped on the opportunity.

My family member obviously has no reason to lie to me, so it comes down to if Alden was being honest. Anyone that knows Alden personally would tell you he is a pretty straight up type of guy, so I tend to believe what he had to say. Especially over another Rant know-it-all.

So get back to your bitching about how we travel, and stick to what you actually know.

The same reason they settled for Arkansas?

I could be mistaken but wasn't it Mizzou trying to leave for the B1G that paved the way for aTm?

No. TAMU has been positioning itself for SEC membership for 25 years. The biggest mistake we made was not following Arkansas in the '90s. We have been waiting for the politics to be favorable and a "reason" for the move for a long time. Politics blocked us in '95 and we were forced to the XII. This time, we controlled the Texas politics and we struck.

Missouri just vocally said what we were all thinking in 2010. Then Nebraska "stole" your spot. OU was choice #2 for the SEC two years ago, however they lack the political ability to separate themselves from OSU. We were all desperate to leave.

We took the brunt of the lawsuit threats from Baylor, covered our asses from torturous interference, paving the way for us to leave. Missouri took OUs spot. And good for y'all! OU isn't coming now, and not ever. Might was well be Missouri.

But make no mistake, we paved the way to the SEC.

And good for y'all for not taking junior membership in the B1G. That would have been BS! You are much better off now. And so are we.

Cheers!

Junior membership and the half pay TCU is getting is complete bullshite.

Way to welcome in a new partner by saying they aren't as valuable as the others.

I applaud Mizzou for not doing that.

Arkansas joins the SEC in July of 1991

Bud Walton broke ground in April of 1992

Could be cause and effect but building Bud Walton could also be the smoking gun of promises made to make Arkansas a SEC school. The winners rewrite the history books but who really knows the core decision making when it happens except maybe a handful of people who were actually in the room when history was made.

I have nothing against A@M so I have no problem giving them props if they paved the way to the SEC. Two things I'm sure we can all agree on. It's sweet to be in the SEC, and what a clusterfrick of a conference the Big 12 is.
