we just don't want Lane being accused of being another George O'Leary amirite?
So because there are no pictures to be found on the Internet of a player who more than likely never dressed for a game as part of the 85 you feel he lied about being part of that program? I think you are right, Pat Hill had never seen Lane in his life and decided to hire him as a student assistant. Little did Pat know Lane wasn't even a student there.

It's unbelievable that LK would actually lie about something like this.

Yeah no way they would hire NFL 's Monte Kiffins son as a favor to his father

This is an odd thread, and it never occurred to me to wonder if Kiffin actually was a QB at Fresno State (mainly because I never knew where he even went to college) but I'm thinking that Monte's kid would probably be found out pretty quickly if he was lying about his football career. Wouldn't Lane have been in college right around the time Tampa Cover 2 was starting to get a lot of attention?

Okay now we're getting somewhere.
Here on page 23 are all time Fresno lettermen for last names beginning with "K"

Thank God we have a man like you looking into these things.

Good job McGregor, good except that's the same SID Office that cannot provide one stat, one "Letter", or one picture.
But we're getting somewhere!

Balzack, thanks man.
Taking O'Leary for instance, I believe he actually played for like three weeks at New Hampshire in two-a-days, then quit, but allowed the story to go forth that he was "still on the team."
So we're trying to clear Lane of anything like that. For instance, some folks might quit in spring of 1996, and still claim they "played in '96" since they were technically on the team in part of 1996, for instance.
That's what we're trying to clear Lane of. And to solidify his honesty.

Maybe he never lettered or recorded a game stat. That doesn't mean he wasn't part of the program. If you can show me where Kiffin said he was a three year letterman QB at Fresno State I will admit he lied. That was Oleary's issue. He said he lettered but never did. He also said he got a degree from a school that didn't exist.

Aman, I'm on Lane's side here. I'm not trying to "prove he lied", I'm trying to prove he's honest.

And it takes a picture found on the Internet for you to believe? An article on the Fresno State official website saying he was part of the program from 94-96 is not enough for you?

Capstone, here's Rhett Lashley as a walkon at Arkansas
so that clears Lashley

Can't link from my mobile but just read a 2010 ESPN article on Kiffins time Fresno State. He was 3rd string behind David Carr and Billy Volek, both of whom went on to the NFL. Didn't quote his stats but don't think Kiffin ever saw the field as a player. It goes on to discuss he gave up his final year of eligibility to join the coaching staff. Discussed he was more into the coaching aspect during his time there.

John Baxter first met Kiffin in 1997, when Kiffin decided to give up his final year of playing eligibility at Fresno State University to join the coaching staff as a student assistant. Kiffin was a seldom-used backup quarterback who was stuck behind future NFL quarterbacks David Carr and Billy Volek on the depth chart when then FSU offensive coordinator (and current Cal coach) Jeff Tedford asked him to help coach the offense.
"He was always in the coaches' office," said Baxter, who coached Fresno State's special-teams coach until March of this year, when Kiffin recruited him to join his coaching staff at USC. "He was behind two really good quarterbacks, and there's one reason why you go to college, and that's to prepare yourself for a career. So at a certain point he made a career choice, and it worked out for him."
Kiffin's time at Fresno State as a quarterback and assistant opened his eyes to a new way of coaching. If Tom Landry and Don Shula lectured, Bulldogs coaches collaborated, gathering in coaches meetings run like think tank sessions. After participating in such a free flow of ideas, Kiffin decided if he ever became a head coach he would surround himself with the best assistants coaches he could find. He wanted his assistants to bring a wide range of skills and experience to the table. What Kiffin himself lacked in experience and expertise he would make up for by bringing together a formidable collective
