No way he said that. That should help recruiting in the future for the one and dones.

Would you hope that John Wall, Anthony Davis, Cousins would come back for another year? What is wrong with that statement?

Be like Cal, send him out the door and make his bank to provide for himself and his family.

If you're going to get the one and dones, you've got to accept the fact they are there for one year. You can be "hopeful" all you want.

so what's wrong with jones saying he's hopeful?

of course simmons isn't coming back, and jones knows this too. but i don't see what's wrong with a coach saying he hopes the best player he's ever had and ever will have will return?

I won't comment on Jones specifically because I don't know exactly what he said (some context helps), but if it's in the context of trying to publicly guilt a kid into coming back to save your job then it's shitty.

There's lots of things to criticize Johnny Jones about. This isn't one.

It still wouldn't save his job. He flat out sucks at coaching.

When did anyone in here say he was a great coach?

This is the quote: Jones on Simmons: He's always come to work. He's been tremendous. I hope there's a slight chance he'll be back.

Now what the hell is wrong with that?

From your link

quote:

"A lot of people put a lot on the table for that young man," LSU coach Johnny Jones said of Simmons "and I'd have to say he exceeded my expectations of the way he's played at the level he has played, and the way he has handled whatever has come his way. "The way he has conducted and carried himself, I don't know if anybody could have imagined him doing a better job. We've gone through some challenges of guys not being available to us and we've had setbacks, and it's an ample opportunity for a superstar like Ben to be a little different, to show up a different way. "Not one day. He has always come to work, he has been tremendous to coach and be around. I'm hopeful there's a slight chance he'll be back, but if he does leave he's one of the guys I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed coaching. "A lot of times people feel like guys will come in and be a problem with their entourage around them and so many things going on around him. "Never, not one time (with Simmons). There's nothing I would have done different with him and he's certainly fulfilled his promise to us in a lot of ways. "He never wavered in the commitment he made to us several years ago, and we've taken a lot of shots as a program because of it. But the only thing he has done is make this program better and we've won a lot of basketball games with him."

Where in the frick do you have issues with this statement. JJ doesn't deserve to be retained, but what the hell are you trying to twist here?

I don't really see it either. He's not doing the "well he has some things to work on" bit like some other coaches have.

That said, I'd have an issue with this if I was an LSU fan...
