Do you recall the time they played in Atlanta before that?

It's like people forget that Meyer beat Saban the year before for the SEC title

Absolutely this. Brady Hoke was the perfect guy for the job at UM.

I even think tomorrow's game is going to be really close.

He's a good coach has a good coaching staff and decent talent at UM. I expect UA to win but I don't think this will be a cake walk either.

Saban played against Meyer 3 times. He lost in a nailbiter in the '08 game. The next two games Saban blew Meyer's teams out, 32-13 and 31-6 respectively.

Why am I defending OSU's head coach (who I don't even really like honestly) when we're talking about Michigan's coaching staff?

A good coaching staff can only get you so far when you are going up against an equally good/better coaching staff who is coaching vastly superior talent on both sides of the ball.

because you said that Michigan will not be outcoached by the coach that sent your team's coach into the hospital and premature retirement. you think Hoke is on that same level? if so, i guess folks in Ohio should prepare their collective anuses

Ok I'll take the bait and explain.

Greg Mattison was Meyer's DC (with Strong) when he beat up on the SEC. He is a great DC and I can realize that. Al Borges is also a hell of a coach as SEC fans have seen first hand as well.

I would put Michigan's DC and OC against Bama's head to head and feel pretty good about my chances.

Head coaches Saban is probably better, but Hoke is pretty good in his own right. The guy took Michigan from the crap they were 2 years ago to a pretty good football team last year (they shouldn't have been in a BCS game, but they were a legit top 15-20 squad)

The OC and DC are pretty important cogs to a successful staff.

I support Meyer cause he's the HC of the school I went to. I still think he's shady and a snake until he proves different

Charlie Strong was the brains behind Urban Meyer's defense from 2005-2008 and Al Borges had one good year as the OC at Auburn when he had 3 first round draft picks in the backfield. Any Auburn fan will tell you that his offenses from 2005-2007 were anemic.

Florida's D was good but not great. it was Tebow that won those championships. The two championships Bama has won recently were spearheaded by a great defense.

IIRC, he was pretty successful with Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, and Jason Campbell in the backfield and McNeil at LT. Michigan doesnt have that type of talent

This must be why Mattison was hired by the Ravens to be their DC Strong is a great coach but let's not act like he did it all on his own.

And every coach needs top talent to win. The complex here is infuriating at times

And Charlie Strong was hired by Louisville to be their head coach. What's your point?

Insert clip of Little Giant's qb running around in circles "I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die!"

This is the last response I'm making or I'll be here all day fighting 200 bama fans.

There were multiple 1st round guys from those Florida defenses. They were very good in 2006 and 2008. Mattison was at least in part a reason for those teams successes.

This has been fun and we'll do it again at some point soon i'm sure

I'll give you one more too, only fair.

I'm saying Mattison is a great DC too, and Strong was not the only brain behind those good UF defenses
