and there has to be an allowance for post college production as well...I cant debate or figure that one out
in favor of one school or another. And when UF & LSU played this year neither team's secondary looked great.
But for college this year...with Marcus Maye being selected as a 1st team All-American and Jalen Tabor and VH3 being named 1st team All-SEC...
It seems that for college portion of the award this year, with LSU's secondary having zero All-Americans and no 1st team all-SEC players (shoutout to Adams and T White for 2nd team), UF would win DBU for this year.
Now when u take into account the current NFL year that Tyrann is having, as well as Pat Pete's consistency, that makes a good case for LSU.
Not to mention with Haden being injured all year. But Janoris Jenkins & Reggie Nelson are having outstanding years as well.
Basically what is the formula for this awarding this title? best secondary right now? Over last 4 years? 6 years? 8 years? of all time? School that put most players in league?
I think its a good fun debate that we can continue to have over the years. I do think Florida had the best secondary in the SEC this year.

Honestly, Steele's system isn't helping the playmakers LSU has

DBU entails that we have more of our Defensive backs drafted into the league and that they are overall more developed.
This year is simply an outlier. We have to see where these DB's end up in the draft to get a better picture

Recruits and the media call LSU DBU so that's all that matters

off top of my head for UF (9)
Joe Haden
Janoris Jenkins
Will Hill
Quinton Dunbar
Marcus Roberson
Reggie Nelson
Josh Evans
Matt Elam
Major Wright
im not sure. Tell me how many there are from LSU because I wouldn't know as I am not an LSU fan. I'll look up the number of gators and get back with you on that.
After research for LSU:
Delvin Breaux*
Ron Brooks
Mo Claiborne
Jalen Collins
Lotson
Mathieu
McCray
Reid
Simon
Peterson
So 10 counting Delvin Breaux. 10 for LSU, 9 for UF currently in NFL. Reggie Nelson of UF leads the NFL with 7 interceptions this seaosn

VH3 will either be the 1st or 2nd DB in the draft this year. Point for the real DBU

Still not impressed. In coverage on both TD passes Saturday and Ridley was open every time VH3 matched up with him.

Steele’s scheme will kill DBU. We’re known for man coverage with roaming safeties. Now we’re in zone scheme that neutralizes a lot of our athletic advantage back there. We had maybe the best pass defense in the country last year and brought back nearly everyone and sucked this year.
Also, Mo is having a better year in Marinelli’s system for the Cowboys other than getting burned by Desean last night in a the game tying TD.
Patrick is having a good year after getting his diabetes under control. Mathieu is probably playing the best football of all DB’s in the league besides Norman. Eric Reid is a very solid safety.
Jamal Adams will be a GREAT pro, mark it down. He has a nose for the football and very gifted athletically. This scheme fricked him up maybe the most. Tre White will be a very solid #2 CB and be able to stick on slot WRs. He is extremely sticky. His only issue is dealing with big, physical WRs going up for the ball, but he can run and move with anyone. Toliver will be a #1 CB in the pros eventually. Mills will be a decent safety in the pros.

This thread is stupid. Who the frick cares who "DBU" is?

Did UF have any freshmen DBs play and make impacts this season?
Kevin Toliver will probably make the All-Freshman team and Donte Jackson played well, getting better throughout the season.

VH is an outstanding player but even LSU's sometimes anemic passing attack burned him for a couple of big plays this season. In my view, Florida had the better DB year, however I think that Adams will wind up being the best pro-player from the current batch of SEC DB's.

I agree VH3 Was underwhelming this year. Awards for him his year are sort of a lifetime achievement award kind of feel for me. He was better the previous 2 years.
I think Adams could have been 1st team and VH3 2nd team if they are not differentiating safeties and corners.
But Tabor absolutely should be 1st team. Our #1 corner this year and if he stays out of legal trouble he will make 2 DBs in the 1st round 2 years in a row
