Best wishes, OP - hope you get your power back soon.

Houston seems to catch it from all sides - the weather events there have been rough over the last few years.

Yep Generac is kinda the standard. I am in Kingwood and lots of people lost power here as well. They are trickling back on now. I would also check the Kohlers. My in laws who also live here put one of those in last year when my FIL pretty well had to have reliable electricity due to health. Be advised that gas supply in relation to your electric meter is going to dictate the price tag to a degree.

That’s a fact, I’ve been through 3 ice storms since I moved down here in the 70s and the only one I didn’t go a long period without power was the first one when I lived in an apartment by the nursing home. I had plenty of company.

Well now. Let me educate you. 09/22/89. Hurricane Hugo, Charleston, SC. I lost power at 7:19 pm. I didn’t have power again until the afternoon of 10/28/89. Of course, Russelldale was way, way down on the priority list, but we paid taxes and power bills just as surely as the folks living on the Battery.

Charge up that Democrat-mandated EV and go for a nice drive.

Lucky for me I've had mine for about 5 years and it's never been used.

Mostly I just want to keep my deep freeze, fridge and aquariums going. If it happened often, I'd look into bigger.

but not enough juice to run the AC or pool pumps

Put all that stuff on one generator, just don’t start the compressors at the same time.
Run the pool unless you don’t want to swim for a month. If you still can’t run it, it’ll still be cheaper faster and less chlorine in the long run if you throw a couple extra pounds of cal hypo in there every evening. Don’t let it get away from you.

4 kW is plenty to run a small 5000 BTU window unit and keep one room cool.

Good luck buddy. Sounds awful. Prayers all you guys get through that shite soon.

We recently moved from ATL to Bham and we’re shocked at the severity of the weather here. Besides the ice hell storm, Bham gets some gnarly shite rolling through the area.

It’s gotten hotter now. Average temperature in Austin has gone up nearly 5 degrees since 1970. The Gulf is so warm now that the sea breeze temperatures are warmer too, making it more difficult to cool down overnight.

No effects here. The derecho intensified after it passed through here, and we were on the southern edge of it.
