Prayers for family and Auburn. Had one hell of a day and hope that life was good to him. Cancer is tough, can't believe that we are no closer to a cure than we were 40 years ago.

RIP. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a game like that.

This is sad.

Wasn't Bill Newton the blocker on both punts and David the scooper on both punts?

Related note, what is Terry Beasly's condition now?

It was as the precursor to instant replay. Honest, I thought they were replaying the block.

To all of our fallen SEC brethren. Ed Dyas was my orthopedic surgeon, loved that guy. He was bad arse.

yes, Newton blocked both. Today the second block would not have happened with instant video, Newton said on the first block Bama left a crease to fit through, they attempted to adjust but to the wrong side. He said the gap to rush through was even bigger the second time.

Little known fact: Pat Dye tweeked Bama's punt blocking that week and Coach Bryant almost fired him for it.

I think he brought the kicker closer to the Center. Pat was already working for AU.

Thanks for sharing that link. I'd heard of this game but never seen the footage and highly recommed that folks scroll to the bottom and watch the video. That's some damn good special teams play - flawless, really. I got to see a play like it against UGA this year but we only got one blocked punt ran back for TD - two like that is simply incredible! RIP to a gridiron warrior and hero of days gone by.

This is also correct. In fairness to Dye, it is thought that his focus during the IB week was somewhat lacking. Coach Dye had lost a pair of pants the prior weekend and well....you know.

That game may have been worse than last year's.
