Fair enough. You can certainly believe whatever you'd like. Either the person told you academics is incorrect or the person who told my friend it was failed drug tests is incorrect. One is certainly true and the other is not. I'll say this; why suspend one game for academics? What were the academic issues that led to it?

The person I've talked to about this (and the coaching situation) has coached at 3 SEC schools and still has contacts in coaching all over the country. Perhaps he heard bad info from one of those contacts on the drug deal. That would be surprising since he heard it from someone on your staff, but it's possible.

As for your coaching situation, I know for a fact those conversations has happened b/c my friend knows the agents that were talked to and he knows a coach at another school who was asked about joining the staff of one of your prospective candidates if he were to take the job.

ETA: I like Ole Miss immeasurable more that MSU. I want Ole Miss to get a good coach so you guys can finally beat that dickhead in Starkville and take away the one thing MSU fans can crow about.

I hope this is true, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's more likely that he wants to help you out, and only said what he said because he wants to be a good guy and give you tips. The problem is that it's completely false.

The term academics covers more than just grades. It covers skipping class, skipping tests, skipping study halls, showing up late for class, being kicked out of class for bad behavior and lying about class/tests.

While bad grades would be an ongoing problem and carry with it stiffer penalties and/or more obvious issues, the above examples are single game offenses under the heading of "academic problems".

I guarantee you it is not a drug issue.

Dude is a friend...not a "source". We have a friendship. He's not trying to do me any favors. It's casual conversation. I mentioned to him after I heard the news that I felt a lot better about the money I laid on Bama at -23.5. He mentioned in passing that is was drug tests. I asked if they were dating mary jane and he said yep.

I'm curious how you can do that.

If I was about to play Bama I'd walk into the AD's office with a fatty too.

People offer information all the time so they can seem helpful, maybe he's just a helpful guy? And based on our past history with suspended players, it was a pretty safe bet. However, he's 100% incorrect. I'm not calling him or you a liar. Maybe the guy he talked to on OM's staff is a liar, or just guessed what happened and told your friend the wrong thing. Who knows.

Besides, Bolden has never been disciplined before (except through the buddy system when his buddy got in trouble) and has never had an issue with drugs in his entire time here. If it's MJ like your friend says, it makes no sense that he'd suddenly burn one the week of the Bama game. Especially when he knows that the entire team takes a piss test every Monday. It just doesn't fit.

But it does make sense that in 4 years on campus of never being disciplined - for anything - that he would choose now to miss a class, study hall, or some other academic BS?

Of the players suspended you had 2 Srs, 1 JR, and 1 SO. So after a combined 13 years on campus this is their first run in with academic issues?

Again, maybe you are right. Maybe I am wrong. We'll never know for sure b/c it is much easier to publicly announce "suspended for academic violations of team rules" than to put a guy completely under the bus and say "failed drug test".

Also - FWIW - most colleges do not suspend a player for their first failed drug test if it is pot. Just something to keep in mind. Perhaps not his first time.

Actually OM was graded one of the most lax on drug related discipline in the nation. You have to have failed multiple tests to miss a game.

Your friend is misinformed is all. This incident is of the academic variety.

Of course you did. Hey, did you hear that Bama is going to play in pink uniforms and wear their jocks on the outside this weekend? I swear I heard it from a completely reliable source.

In perhaps the most embarrassing part of any drug policy in the NCAA, not only does Ole Miss not suspend players for a second failed drug test, they justify it by no longer giving the student-athlete complementary game tickets for family and friends. Their atrocious polices don't get much tougher on the third violation. A third failed drug test only requires a player to miss three games.

Knock yourself out here brah

You obvious;y have something substantial invested in it not being a drug issue.

Maybe you are a GA with the team or something. I just find it strange that 3 folks that I have worked with for a number of years (one of whom is providing me with 4 tickets to the game) have all said it is drug related
