Last 4/5 years aside - just based on facilities, tradition, coaching staff, stadium, fanbase and backing, game day intensity and environment, and NFL potential, you can't beat:

Tennessee
Georgia
LSU
Bama

With the following right behind:
Auburn
Florida
A&M

Any of these would compete with the following national schools as far as potential "Top 10 programs":

Oregon
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Michigan
Ohio State
Florida State
Penn State

Agree, but you've had 3, 3, and 5 losses the past 3 years. You've got to stop that noise or your talent level wont stay that high.

I don't think that is going to hurt LSU's chances with recruits. They come here to go to the NFL...early.

I guess that means LSU is too good at placing players in the NFL. We need them to stick around a bit longer.

Great players can do that almost anywhere. Hell, Central Michigan (as Arky fans will tell you) had the #1 pick in the draft a few years ago.

I think they go to LSU for NFL pipeline, chance to win, cool campus, etc. If you start to see one of those primary reasons (winning) look less and less appealing, it could impact recruiting.

I still can't believe LSU lost 3 games with 4 NFL starters on Offense in 2013. Then again, Bama lost 3 games in 2010 with 4 future first round picks on O.

Bama and Auburn...

LSU has lost 4 of 5 bowl games... and lost 5 games this year total.

That does not equate to a Top 10 program IMO.

I hadn't looked back at scores until after your Chavis pic in response to why LSU lost 3 games in 2013 with 4 NFL starters, but you may be onto something.

LSU scored 41 against UGA that year. Should be enough to win, but the D gave up 44. You scored 24 against Ole Miss (enough to beat them most years), but the D gave up 27. You only got 17 against Bama, which is not enough to win most years, but your D gave up 38.

Chavis pretty much sucked for you guys in 2013 (I can't blame him for 2014, though).

D was off that year and it came at the worst possible time because we had a record setting offense.

We actually had a fricking QB.

Of all the times for our D to be off, that was the worst possible year for it to happen.

I agree but at the same time, we've had to deal with record number departures. Hopefully the trend changes, it's sickening to think of the teams we could have had if everyone would have came back an extra year

BATON ROUGE -- After a nation-leading five players were selected in the opening three rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft, four more members of the LSU football team heard their name called during Saturday's final four rounds. The total of nine tied the school record set in last year's draft and was the highest in the nation in 2014. Alabama and Notre Dame each had eight. LSU head coach Les Miles has now put more players in the NFL draft (60) during his tenure at LSU (2005-present) than any other SEC school, and ranks second nationally to USC (61).

What are all those numbers referring to?

That is impressive, no doubt. I wonder how LSU and Bama compare during the 8 year period both schools have had current coach there (let's face it, Bama was getting no one drafted in 2005-2007).

Good question, I'm sure Saban has you up there, if not higher.
