And not concerned what the "new bama fans" think, but those that were bama fans pre-saban.

Don't judge their entire fanbase by this message board. Their real fans know they fricked.

You having bama on the brain doesn't provide much.... so I'll take that as a "nothing to add".

He's won everywhere he's been and now is at a top tier program with all the resources in the world.

Maybe, but you're not going to win an SEC championship without defense.

They could've hired a low life piece of trash like Freeze.

Alabama knows a thing or two about what it takes to win SEC Championships, they've won 30 of them.

DeBoer doesn’t coach defense. He just went out and hired a staff for that.

I got back to the early Bryant days.

DeBoer is a top 5 coach in the game currently. Hard to argue against that. Smart, Sarkesian weren’t leaving no matter what, so that leaves who?

Lanning, no matter what is said I think was at least discussed, and he decided to stay put.

I certainly wouldn’t put Day as a top 5 coach but some do. I could probably win 9 games at Ohio State with their schedule year in and year out.

So that leaves who? DeBoer has won everywhere he’s been, and won a lot of games he didn’t have the best roster. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish when he does have the best roster.

He’s not the GOAT, but nobody else in the game is either.

Two reasons.

First, as mentioned earlier, Deboer has won everywhere he has been. This was not the case with Perkins, Curry, Shula, Dubose, Francione or even Stallings.

Perkins had four head coaching jobs. Alabama was the only one he had an overall winning record at going 32-15-1 in four seasons. Outside of Alabama, he only had one winning season out of his other nine as a head coach..

Bill Curry also had four head coaching jobs. Again, Alabama was the only school he had an overall winning record at. He arrived from Georgia Tech with a losing record of 31-43-4. At Alabama he went 26-10. Afterwards at Kentucky he went 26-52 and at Georgia State 10-23.

Mike Shula’s only head coaching job was Alabama. While wins were later vacated, he went 26-23. No one has given him another head coaching opportunity.

Dubose was a good coordinator. But Alabama was his only FBS head coaching job. He went 24-23. After being fired at Alabama he coached at the Division III and high school level.

Stallings had two head coaching jobs. Coming from Texas A&M his record was 27-45-1. At Alabama he went 70-16-1.

Five of the six coaches that Alabama had between Bryant and Saban that coached a game never even had an overall winning record anywhere but Alabama.

Francione was a little better. He went 33-36 at New Mexico, 25-10 at TCU, 17-8 at Alabama, 32-28 at Texas A&M, and 39-43 at Texas State. He was a middle of the road coach and no one can make the argument that Francione was a great coach.

Alabama used to think they could plug anyone with Alabama ties; one of Bear’s boys or a former player/assistant; into the job and they would win. And for the most part they did. But not at an elite level. The reason is they just weren’t good coaches. Yet they still managed to win at Alabama.

Deboer seems to be a really good coach. So, if shitty coaches that can’t even manage to get jobs after Alabama can win 10 games and the SEC, Alabama fans are very hopeful that a good coach with a winning resume will have even more success.

Second, Alabama fans look at how LSU has managed to sustain their success post Saban. As LSU fans love to remind us, they even won national championships with Miles and Orgeron. None of that would have happened if Saban hadn’t first laid the foundation.

So, those two reasons are why Alabama fans feel very optimistic.

Bama hired one of the coaches that was just in the NC game. The Los Angeles Chargers hired the other one.

I hope they do better than the one his coaches fielded at Washington last year. I think he mentioned defense one time in his introductory press conference, and it was almost by accident.

Well…to date…given that he’s still MANY months away from actually coaching his 1st game for bama?

He hasn’t been spotted in a titty-bar in Pensacola yet (that we know of )

I think saying DeBoer is currently a "top 5 coach" is very arguable

Heck - just 6 months ago he was listed as the 23rd ranked coach in college football.

Obviously a lot has changed in 6 months - for example: 2 of the top 5 ranked coaches here are not even college coaches anymore. I think today DeBoer is better than the 23rd best coach in college football currently – but it can be argued that he isn’t a top 5 active coach

What choice do they have? They can either think he will match or better Saban, unlikely, be down in the mouth and about to slit their wrist, un healthy, take a wait and see attitude, un-interesting or they can take the approach many are taking and say he is the perfect candidate and who they wanted all along, very troll worthy. Given that about 99.9% of the messages and comments on these boards are troll attempts they really have no choice but to take the last route.
