Pretty sure Bone was the person who down voted my post

What's the dynamic like in Auburn the city as opposed to Auburn the university? I've been to two games there, but that's the limit of my experience. Obviously Nashville isn't a "college town," but I did grad work at UNC and Chapel Hill very much is a college town and the entire state is quite as basketball-mad as the SEC states are football-mad. However, I can't imagine a highly rated basketball player at Chapel Hill High (or, for that matter, at some high school in Durham) getting nearly as much flack as a highly rated football player in Tuscaloosa/Auburn/Oxford/Fayetteville, etc would get for choosing a rival to attend. There's a different dynamic and I have little personal experience with the immersion of local kids in fandom of the local university in places like Auburn and Tuscaloosa. Is there not a sizable segment that chooses to cheer for "the other team" in these places?

never know, it probably isn't much fun being hated in your high school. plus the kids really know how dumb he is so I'm sure they are rubbing that in his face. Kids can be fricking mean

Check out that Speakman fella. Father with two kids that he has al over his Twitter page.
All fan bases have some classless fans. All of them. No way to defend a grown man with a family trashing an 18 yr old and his father on social media. Perspective. Get some.

I'm sorry but I have no fricks to give about this guy anymore. He's in the same class as Marlon Humphrey and I imagine Marlon would have caught hell had he chosen Auburn over Alabama and he he doesn't even live in Tuscaloosa
Him and his pity party can kick rocks
You have crossed the river to Updyke City. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I highly doubt any one at his high school is messing with a future Alabama linebacker
It is weird old fricks hiding behind twitter to mock a high school kid over his college decision.

He doesn't deserved to be trashed if this is the case, but I don't feel sorry for him after he invited TWO Auburn commits to his announcement only to shove it in their face and commit to the archrival.
Was it ever definitively explained or even confirmed that the situation happened exactly as you describe? I recall seeing the rumor but don't recall seeing hard evidence that Evans did this in the way described. It sounds trashy of him, but it also sounds like something that deserves real confirmation before using it to attack his character.

Actually, I was pretty disappointed when Evans decided to go elsewhere, but I think he fits the Bama defensive system better than as a star DB/LB hybrid at Auburn. I think he would have been awesome still because he is that kind of athlete. However, on an intellectual level, I at least think he fits in as an OLB at Bama better.
Still sucks that he went to Bama of all places.

exactly how did he handle the decision that is so offensive to Au fans, besides choosing Alabama?
By telling people around here that he was coming to Auburn. Telling current signees he was coming to Auburn and having them show up at his signing. The granddaddy birthday debacle. The reaction by the Auburn coaching staff was also pretty telling.
Honest question, how would this same exact scenario go over in Tuscaloosa if the rolls were reversed?

I dont know. Ruben Foster blazed that trail a year ago.

Impossible to know for sure. I suppose it will eventually happen though.
I've rattled this cage before but Carnell Williams was a bit of an Evans in that he grew up a Bama fan in a Bama household and took the better NFL potential elsewhere. So in a way Bama has had something similar-ish happen before.

it is probably a mix. I'm sure plenty of old creeps are fricking with him but i wouldn't doubt that class mates have said stuff as well.
When he gets to T-Town, the creepy old fricks will be the ones buying him hibachi steak, giving him suits, and fishing trips.

Did Bone say anything that wasn't true? He pointed out that those comments were from a grown man to a high school kid.

Not really comparable though. Social media wasn't what it is today back then.

Well it was such an event that the Bama fans that lived through it are still butt-hurt about it.

Ehh, for the fans involved it felt awful. I won't lie. There is more to life than social media.

The granddaddy birthday debacle.
I've never understood why fellow AU fans gets so upset about this or label it a "debacle." His grandfather had a party that AU's coaches were reportedly invited to. It was the last weekend before signing day. Of course Alabama was going to send coaches there, too. What were AU's coaches supposed to do? Not show up? Yeah, that would show him how much we want him.
If you don't think the party should've been thrown in the first place, fine. But I think the whole party thing is way overblown.

No, but he sure seems to be The White fricking Knight to the Bama linebacker that I've been assured up-thread that every Auburn high school student would never taunt because they obviously live in fear of him.
