That's what I thought. At the U he'll get 3-4 four star players every year to mold.

The extraneous campus BS is a possible factor, but he did try to leave for Illinois last year.

And there's been multiple reports since the season ended that there was tension between the two.

You're right in saying Kuligowski was Pinkel's only superstar staff success, although I think Odom has a chance to be in that league himself. I really like how he's carrying himself and the overall coaching philosophies he's putting out there.

Hopefully he can take us to that elusive next level.

That's not the only 4/5 star kids that he had to coach here.

Even if it were, it's just a very narrow way to look at talent judging solely from "stars"

You can look at guys like Aldon Smith, Shane Ray, Markus Golden, Jaqcuis Smith, Ziggy Hood, Charles Harris, Walter Brady, Josh Augusta, Harold Brantleyetc. these were guys that obviously should have been 4/5 star kids if we are to accept that "stars" are the end all be all.

A lot of kids either get evaluated poorly, or they are late bloomers or a combination of the two.

My point was. He's had great talent to work with. He obviously did a great job developing it and I suspect he'll carry that with him to Miami.

so you're predicting Pinktards far and away best position coach, and the one he promoted all sorts of failures and average coaches ahead of, will be a success in spite of less reliance on "diamonds in the rough" recruiting?

going way out on a limb there aintcha sparky?

btw saying those 2-3 stars were all "really 4-5 stars" is arguing against the point of Kul being a good position coach, but then a complete moron like you would never figure that out either..

Educate yourself. Kuligowski had professional jealousy toward Barry Odom being named DC over him a year ago.

Odom wasn't ever going to retain Kul. That was known from before Odom even got the job. Kul may not have wanted to stay, but it was Odom's decision first.

If those kids were as great out of high school as you are saying then how come most of them didn't get a ton of playing time right away. Or why were most of them not highly recruited? I can see some schools missing on them but not every school.

And again, I'm not saying Mizzou doesn't bring in some great talent, but Miami is going the give him a plethora of talent to work with.

And who evaluated that talent?

That Walter Brady kid is from Alabama and was seemingly not on the radar of either of the two instate power programs, or any other SEC power in the area. He was ranked like 60th-70th in the state. Its easy to say in hindsight that he was probably a 4-5 star talent all along, but at some point you have to look at Kuligowski and say that he's either got an incredible eye for talent which is why he seemingly knows how to spot these kids that no one else bothers to see, or he's really really good at developing them.

As an outside observer, I'd say that he's got both qualities. The number of small-time recruits that have gone on to become star-caliber players under Kuligowski can not possibly be a coincidence. Even bottom-tier athletes like Michael Sam performed at an above-average level under him.

Id say Micheal Sam was probably the best example of Kul's teaching. He's a limited athlete and was a great college player based on technique and motor.

I'm not diminishing Kul at all. I've said repeatedly he is a great coach. Probably the best DL coach in the nation.

My point was he wasn't some water into wine messiah. Football is (mostly) about players and he had the good fortune to coach some great ones. If he didn't have those guys to coach he wouldn't be who he is. It's a two way street. Of course he gets credit for identifying and developing, but he wasn't lead recruiter on a lot of those guys. Again though, to his credit, he did an excellent job developing them.

Recruiting is area-distributed. Just because he's not the "lead recruiter" on every player under him, doesn't mean that he's not actually identifying who he wants to target. Charles Harris was "recruited" by your Quarterbacks coach...I mean, are you trying to tell me that your QB coach is responsible for identifying a non-rated DE recruit? No, Charles Harris was "recruited" by your QB coach because he is from Missouri, and if you look at Andy Hill's recruiting profile you'd notice that virtually all the kids he signs are in-state: he is from Missouri himself and is obviously tasked with recruiting the local area.
