Oh yeah? And who is owed over $1,000,000? Every single player on the team?

Did I ever say they should get over $1 million? Read better.

Is covering the medical costs of former players too much to ask?

By this same logic, I have a hard time faulting the schools as well. This is bullshite plain and simple. frick these no talent pussies. Go get a job picking things up and putting them back down since you squandered both your football opportunities AND your scholastic opportunities as well.

For the rest of their life? For non FB related injuires?

So,if we're going down that road, why not HS's liable for former player's medical expenses?

So they're making 20k a year. Living large.

Seems right at their earning potential leaving high school. Either a degree or NFL puts them significantly further ahead than they ever would've got on their own. It must suck.

For football related injuries, clearly. Mental health and any consequences of the lasting effects of concussions.

Although I'm sure thee are exceptions, high schools are not making millions and millions off of their players. Nor are the majority signing contracts to play there.

I didnt say anything about what would happen if it made it to trial. You took my post and ran with it really far. My point was only to show the flaw in his argument.

that's on you for not taking full advantage of the opportunities the school afforded you during your collegiate career and afterwards.

Hard to do if you have damage to your memory and cognitive functions.

At my job I have Worker's Comp, and a salary with which to pay the insurance for loss of work for the short and/or long term. If these players don't have that, it's not really fair, is it? (But of course, the coaches need their multi-million dollar deals because none of them would coach for a couple hundred thousand like they did a few years ago.)

Brain damage typically takes 10 years or more to have signs of it show up.

Being in my mid 30's now I can definitely tell some differences in cognitive function that I believe is likely related to head trauma I chose to make myself susceptible to.

It's like your neurons fire slower. My speech patterns have changed and I don't react as quickly or as sharply. Hey I did the activities under my own choosing, it's just my shite to deal with. Same as with other former athletes or entertainers. It's the price you pay for a bit of glory and not being an average Joe Blow forever.

Huh?What difference should that make to those supposedly suffering side effects from concussions?

So if schools don't make "millions" off FB (the vast majority BTW when you include DII,FCS,HBC and DIII)
Then they should be exempt?

Oh,and please show me ALL the long term studies that back up these head trauma claims? What about Soccer?Boxing?MMA?Cheerleading?

I have a hard time faulting the Universities unless they were fully aware of the risk and were hiding it from the players. And dont act like they weren't getting compensated for their "labor".

I'm really tired of this shite. These kids know what they are playing. Don't want to risk a concussion? DONT PLAY FOOTBALL!!!! Nobody forces these people to play football. Salaries in the NFL are very good to justify the risk. There is a reason underwater welder a are paid well. It's because of the risk. Don't want the risk? Don't play the game.

Agree. I'm not sure what is being done currently but all institutions need to have all players sign a waiver acknowledging the risks. And yes, equipment technology needs to be improved. At some point we will have bionic men and women playing football.

By that logic, shouldn't it be just as problematic to fault the schools?

ETA: NM, others have already brought this up

20k a year for an absurdly high chance of multiple concussions.. and let's face it.. they are severe injuries. You're talking about damage to a kids brain.
